Rather people are caught up with work issues that lead to stressful lifestyles. Philosophers Josef Pieper and Thoreau, Henry David both agree, with this idea of too much work being a hindrance to true happiness in a person’s life. Thoreau in his Walden and other writing book writes that, the reason he chose a solitude life for two years in a cabin in Walden Pond was in order to have more time to think. He writes that he prefers to spend his time thinking rather than working to acquire luxuries (Thoreau, 1950).
This is because acquiring luxuries does not necessarily bring happiness and wellbeing into a person’s life. Josef in his book titled leisure: the basis of culture shows how important leisure is in perceiving life’s realities. He points out that it is only through leisure that religion can be embraced, because leisure creates time to contemplate Gods nature (Pieper, 1952). Creating leisure time away from our busy work schedule allows us to evaluate our lives more deeply. I agree with the views of the two philosophers because currently in the world many people are unhappy and stressed out yet they own big houses, cars among other luxuries.
In addition workaholism has increased which leaves workers with less time to engage in religion, enjoy nature and reflect on their lives. Question 2 Doing Philosophy is questioning the character of human and their responsive to the nature using questions that explore a specific idea which affects human beings. Doing philosophy is trying to share wisdom and gain more insights into the beliefs that human beings have towards life, nature, culture etc. Doing philosophy is seeking understanding into the many aspects of human life on earth that take place.
In doing philosophy, one aspect of human life is chosen; questions are asked which give rise to arguments in order to come up with a clear statement that explains that aspect. Before the statement is arrived at, the philosopher has to attempt to back up his claims with evidence through supporting or refuting another philosopher’s belief. While doing philosopher, it does not mean that the claims one philosopher makes cannot be argued out and refuted if another philosopher challenges it on evidence grounds.
In doing philosophy, philosophers try to ask all the questions that people have asked since a lot time ago and are asked currently. Philosophy attempts to provide answers to this questions that range from region, politics, reproduction, nature, happiness, death, wisdom etc. Doing philosophy opens up people’s perception and insights into life’s purposes and what humans’ true objective is in life. Doing philosophy is sharing ones wisdom with the world, in something important in life that other people are unaware of.
Its aim is to clarify views on life and its aspects that affect people on a daily basis. Doing philosophy ensures that only truthful, argued and evidence based claims are made which eliminates faulty, cunning individuals from telling lies. Question 3 The philosophers that we have read about consider doing philosophy important because it is through it, that they have expressed their wisdom on life. According to these philosophers, doing philosophy is important in helping human beings realize what truly brings happiness and is more important in their lives.
Philosophy assists people to spend more time on the things that matter and to ignore those that do not add any value into their
