Eng105 is an English composition class offered by the University of Miami, which acts as a public space that provides freshmen with an opportunity to learn how to write an undergraduate-level essay. Ideally, the Eng105 class reverses the traditional image of literature class by changing the relationship of the instructor and students. As a student in this class, I am a witness that this public space allows the teacher and students to create an environment of equality. In this class, students and teachers can illustrate their thoughts by speaking and analyze the topic of discussion. Nevertheless, other students would listen and continue to contribute to the class, ideas exchanges within the whole classroom. Most assuredly, I can confirm that the members of Ms Leary’s class minimize the distance of instructor and student, and create a place where intimacy and work efficiency coexist. Indeed, the Eng105 class is a public space that becomes the mixture of lecture and literature salon. This paper presents an argument about how the Eng105 class functions.

While attending the Eng105 class, I witnessed many activities as students and the instructor expressed their thoughts at any time during the class. In fact, at the beginning of the class, the instructor raises an interesting topic to draw the attention of all students and heat the feeling of literature salon. Ideally, the centre of attraction in this public space moves around and during the class since the person who is speaking and demonstrating becomes the centre of attraction. The students and the instructor pay attention to the person speaking since the audience develop a sense of interest to the speaker. As such, the centre of attraction keeps moving within the Eng105 class. Subject to the fact that the Eng105 class accommodates many students from diverse backgrounds all the speakers seek to communicate and present their views in a relevant and clear manner that the audience would understand.  ...Download file to see next pages Read More

... be frowned upon by another. An example of a norm that I observed was when I recently visited my cousin’s workplace. It was a spacious building with several floors and large glass windows. Everyone was dressed formally as was required in a place of work. Everyone seemed busy or in a rush to get work done and even though I met a lot of people I knew no one really stopped by to have an actual conversation with me. It was a Tuesday, around mid day and I was supposed to wait for my cousin. The floor space was aligned with multiple cubicles and people were scattered everywhere on the floor; having discussions, sitting in groups, handing out files. A social norm that I observed there was the fact that no matter how busy or tired or stressed...

Gendered Spaces

It is believed many of the ills of contemporary home environment can be traced to these historic developments which should be easily rectifiable by incorporating "feminine" aspects of space design (Roberts, 1991).
The case for a feminine urban theory can be built on an obvious assumption that women were historically "oppressed" by a system of patriarchy which denied them an active voice in matters dealing with not only urban planning but also other aspects of life such as politics, civic participation, games and sports, trade etc. (McDowell, 1984, Francke, 1985). Rendell, Penner & Borden (2000) criticise this theory for its ignoring of the histories surrounding matriarchal civilisations such as Ancient Egypt and Samoa.

...Observation: Riding Public Transportation Many people ride the bus for various reasons. And riding public transportation is something that I chose, since I have never done it before. However, riding public transportation does cost money. This was not free. But in the process of this observation, I realized that there are people from all walks of life who choose to ride. Some people ride the bus, because they want to conserve gas and do not want to put wear and tear on their cars. ...This paper is outlines my volunteer experience in a preschool, called Kinderland. I worked as a teacher assistant at this child development center which is a privately owned child care facility. My first impression when I visited the school was great. Though it is a child development center, the school has nice buildings and the environment is well maintained and clean. I was also impressed to realise that the school has an official website shown here :< http://www.kinderland-cdc.com/>. This is a sign that the school is keeping pace with changes brought by digital communication technology. I also observed that the center maintains a well manicured garden with beautiful flowers and lawn. This school is multiracial and it caters...
