ment of Purpose. Right from my Elementary School days in Thailand, Math and Physics have been my favorite s, and I have consistently topped my class in both. Coupled with my passion for tinkering with car engines, my choice of Mechanical Engineering as my graduate major has been but a natural progression of my aptitudes and interests. I have thoroughly enjoyed the Twinning Engineering Program at Thammasat and Nottingham Universities, and am confident that a postgraduate degree in Manufacturing Engineering and Management at Nottingham would be the best step I can now take towards furthering my academic career.
My major strength lies in my technological skills. I have an aptitude for computer simulation and love working with engines. I have always marveled at the application of technology which has made South Korea and Japan the envy of the East. I believe that Thailand can easily emulate their example and also become a significant player in the manufacturing segment. I see myself in the vanguard of a technological revolution, in which Thailand establishes itself as a leader in its own right in this sphere.
I am aware that the first step towards achieving such success lies in the acquisition of the necessary knowledge and practical skills. I can think of no better preparation for this than a degree in Manufacturing Engineering and Management at Nottingham. In addition to my love for engines, I also enjoy interacting with people. This I consider a gift from my parents. My father, a psychiatrist, and my mother, a nurse, have always impressed upon me the importance of interpersonal relationships. On another plane, my love for sports (I am medal winning swimmer and basketball player) has made me a good team player and inculcated in me the values of discipline and team spirit.
I am sure that these social skills will be an asset in my Management career. I am also interested in business. This stems from my stint as a part-time accountant for my father, and gels with my love for Math. I intend to do my postgraduate studies in Manufacturing Engineering and Management, go on to acquire some hands-on experience in a reputed Manufacturing concern, and hone my business and management skills. My long term goal is to set up my own manufacturing facility in Thailand and succeed as a business entrepreneur.
I am deeply conscious of the benefits of industrial development in the Third World. This would also be my way of contributing to the development of my country. I am particularly motivated by the satisfaction I felt when, as the Social Secretary of the Thai Student Society in Nottingham, I organized a Thai Cultural Festival to successfully raise funds for the flood victims in Thailand, in association with the Thai Red Cross. I have also raised funds for economically disadvantaged children in Thailand and assisted my father in his project in music therapy: I have taught a couple of his psychiatric patients to play the piano.
These experiences have made me aware of the great happiness that comes from having made a difference, however small, to the quality of life of others. I strongly believe that a postgraduate degree in Manufacturing Engineering and Management from Nottingham University will best equip me for my future career and goals in life. My technological skills, aptitude for Math and Business, and my love of social interaction and organization, will be an asset to me in this course. I am confident that this degree will not only give me the technological and management skills I require, but also give me the opportunity to play a part in making this world a better place for all.
