Hip Hop Order No. 511606 Chapter six sheds light on the Hip Hop scene that set the pop culture stage on fire along the West Coast. The era oozes with some of the most colorful personalities like Snoop Dogg, Tupac Shakur, Ice –T, Ice –Cube and Dr. Dre most popularly known for their Gangsta Rap, Melody groves and theatrics that shot them to instant fame. These Hip Hop icons created a huge pop ethos that revolutionized pop culture and left an indelible mark on the music scene. The Hip Hop Movement spread its tentacles to countries far and wide from its epicenter that was New York.
This culture was viewed with a critical eye by culture pundits, the law and politicians because they thought it had a very corrupting influence on American youth. Hip Hop cannot be labeled with a Black or White identity because it has a global appeal and is common across all cultures. No one has ever dared to question the multi-racial face of Hip Hop because it has managed to become an intangible part of the lives of young people all around the world. Even though this culture is filled with complexities and ethnic character, the Bay Area’s Hip- Hop scene is looked upon as being much more than consumer culture.
Though critics blame Hip Hop for demeaning youth values and encouraging anti-social behavior, yet is considered to be a portent platform where young people can voice their opinions and find an identity for themselves in this world. There is a common intersection between politics on one hand and youth on the other where youth not only come to know of their rights but also their duties towards their community and country at large.
