HOW DOES THE MILITARY LIFESTYLE AFFECT THE SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND ACADEMIC MOTIVATION OF ADOLESCENTS I HIGH SCHOOL Executive Summary The study focuses in the determination of the effects of military lifestyle on the social development and academic motivation of adolescents who are in high school and who were raised in military families during the time of wars. This study examined the power of adapting things, control exertions, and mental health among some youths aged between 9 and 15 years living in families where no less than one guardian was serving in the United States military. Also the parents gave out fundamental demographic and deployment data (Castro, et al. 2006). Youths reported on their nature of adapting new places or rather new environment, control exertions, and how fast they adjust to new environment through institutionalized report toward oneself measures. For the ones who were deaf, there was a questionnaire with the same questions as those asked verbally. The results shows that adolescents living in military families reported hoisted levels of behavior issues as indicated by settled clinical standards. Be that as it may, ponder findings likewise show that control endeavors and maternal help act as critical defensive elements against the improvement of behavior issues and enthusiastic symptoms, whereas to abstain from adapting is related to more prominent enthusiastic symptoms (Marting, et al. 2000). It also shows that, those who are affected directly during the times of war are depressed and they are performing poorly in school. 1. Descriptive statistic Descriptive statistics are utilized to portray the fundamental gimmicks of the data in a study. They give straightforward rundowns about the specimen and the measures. Together with straightforward graphics investigation, they structure the premise of essentially every quantitative examination of data. They are typically extracted from inferential statistic. a. Central tendency It is the idea of one number that summarizes the whole measurement. Taking the gender and age as our demographic variable of the adolescents, let X denote the number of boys who were in the sample of adolescents and Y denote the number of girls in that sample. X +Y equals to the whole sample which was taken randomly as per the rules of random sampling. The mode It is a measurement with the highest number of frequency. It is the one which is mostly found. In the sample, the mode will be the age which is mostly appearing in each gender. The median In central tendency, the median is the number that is at the middle of all the measurements or rather is the number at which half the measurement are exceeding that number and the other half are less than that number. The sample has to be arranged in ascending or descending order, then the number at the middle is the median. The mean Is the average calculated by summing up all the measurements and then dividing by the total number of variables. It is given by; b. Measure of dispersion The range It is the spread of measurement. It is also the difference between the highest number and the lowest number. In the sample taking, the range in terms of age is: 15-9=6 The standard deviation It is the degree to which the measurement deviates from the mean. It is given by; xi=variables N= total number of variables in the sample (X+Y) The descriptive statistics brings out the behavior of the variables used. Like the mean, mode, and so forth. It becomes so easy to be understood by the consumer of the study since the characteristics of the demographic variables are clearly brought out. 1. Inferential statistics Examining the correlation relationship between variables Hypothesis Ho: there is no association between military lifestyle and academic motivation of adolescents. H1: there is association between military lifestyle and academic motivation of Sample and sampling method. The sample frame was all adolescents from the age of 9 to 15 who at least one of their parents has served the United states army. Stratified sampling and random sampling was used to identifythe sample of interest. In each strata, a questionnaire was issued by simple random sampling approach where everyone had an equal chance of been selected within the stratum. Sample size determination The sample size is calculated as follows; Where, z=the standard normal deviate usually set as 1.96 which corresponds to 95% confidence interval. P=It is the population which is targeted with a special characteristic. q= 1-p e=degree of accuracy desired in this context set at 0.05 n= refer to the desired sample size. Data Analysis Since the research was quantitative the data was analyzed using quantitative methods like Descriptive statistics in analyzing the questionnaire. To achieve our main objective that is to determine the association between the two variable and Identify whether they have a positive or negative relationship. The researcher uses chi-squared to determine the existence of an Association between the two using alpha level of 0.05.Then the researcher uses Pearson correlation coefficient to determine the nature of the relationship. If the relationship coefficient is -1, then the correlation is perfectly weak. If it is 1, then it is perfectly strong and in favor of the modeland if it is 0, then the correlation is of no favor. The major impact that may strengthen the relationship is the effect size. Strengths And Limitations There are several strengths in the current study. If the p-value is less than the alpha value which is 0.05, then we reject the null hypothesis and accept the alternative hypothesis. In our case if we reject the null hypothesis then the conclusion drawn will be that the research gives us enough evidence that there is an association between the military lifestyle and the social development and the academic motivation of adolescents in high school raised in military families. If the Pearson correlation coefficient is positive one, then the research implies that the relationship is strongly correlated towards the positive side. When the coefficient is zero, then it implies there is no any relationship. Lastly when it is negative one, then it is perfectly correlated towards the negative side. . Standard practices were utilized to gather data from all members in the school setting. While parents finished demographic data at home, data from the children was gathered utilizing methods broadly acknowledged to diminish distress with examination investment when far from parents and other exceptionally well known adults—little gatherings, with commonplace associates, and inside the recognizable restrictions the youngsters school. Soundness amid their utilization. However in my study, unwavering quality evaluations for some of our scales like passionate side effects, dynamic and preoccupation adapting were lower than perfect and this may be because of a little example and/or the low number of things making a few scales. An absence of discoveries for dynamic and distractive adapting may be because of their low alphas. Other study impediments incorporate a little specimen, low reaction rate, and adherence to youth report toward oneself for most study variables. It might be that military families are a troublesome gathering to consent to take part in examination. Also, it is likely that among military families contrasts might just be seen amid times of genuine parental organization (Padden, et al. 2013, p.678), and this element likely assumed a part in the failure to affirm theories in regards to contrasts among children of conveyed versus non-sent parents and conceivable reaction rates. If a guardian was conveyed, families may have been more averse to consent to take an interest. Adapting, parental help, effortful control, and alteration were all surveyed by means of youngster report, and relations among develops are likely swelled because of imparted method fluctuation (Burrel, et al. 2006, p.50). Be that as it may, it can be contended that regarding adapting and social help, report toward oneself is the best method in that both of these builds are subjective and hard to measure without self-report.
