The design team has to take circulation space and balance area into account as well, with stairs, corridors, women and men bathrooms, and most importantly, the entry reception area on the first floor.

The design element had to accommodate 129 Members of the Scottish Parliament, as well as civil servants, with over 1,000 employee staffers. With those numbers, it was quite the joke that, (though not funny at all), the parking spaces changed from 135 to just 65. The newly elected Parliament members insisted that most employees would walk or ride a bicycle to work. Three years from the start, from 40 million British Pounds, to 414 million, the city of Edinburgh would never be the same. Met with mix reaction between the city’s people, their culture, and the character of the exterior Scottish landscape, the project finally came to fruition after four years.

Architectural academics and critics alike, voiced a poetic union, giving the new Scottish Parliament Building, named the Holyrood Building, it’s place in history. Described as a “tour de force” in architectural achievement in 2005, the building received the Royal Institute of British Architects Sterling Prize. Founded in 1996, and named after the great architect James Sterling, this award is appraised as one of the most celebrated architecture award in the United Kingdom. project mangers resigned, both architects, Donald Dewar, and Enric Miralles, passed away before completion of the project, and the media attacked the project from the beginning.
