"Walk the Line" is a biographical movie on the life and times of country's legendary boy, Johnny Cash. The movie begins from half way through Johnny's career at the legendary Folsom Prison Concert' of 1968. Cash performance at the prison take you back to his childhood. It gives audience a clear idea about the early days of his life spent on his father's farm, and his days in the Germany Air Force. After his return from Germany, his music career took off. Later he gave audition to Sam Phillips who owned the Sun Records (the label that founded Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, and Carl Perkins etc). Cash is instantaneously signed, cuts a record, and heads out on his opening musical tour, which happens to be of great magnitude in history. The tour includes all the bands founded by Sun records including June Carter. They had their first hit in 1955 with the nostalgic "Cry, Cry, Cry" after that "Folsom Prison Blues," "I Walk the Line." and "Home of the Blues." His debut Sun album, released in 1957, was entitled With His Hot and Blue Guitar. During his tour, Cash has some acquaintances with June Carter, whom he had long admired. She was the daughter of the legendary Mother Maybelle Carter; June had grown up in the heart of country music. Lacking the rhythmic voice of her renowned sisters, she relied on her dynamic personality and has a blend of country wit; she was an energetic, multi-instrument performer whose genuine concerts won over audiences. Touring with Cash, June developed a close connection with Johnny, although their enduring romance would take a decade to bloom. His music raises him to stardom he could have never dreamt of, but later drug and alcohol abuse became menaced to his career. They also get in the way of a possible romance with June, the love of his life, even after Vivian Cash leaves him. The life of Jhonny Cash as a legend is filled with anger and fire.
The movie is all about Cash's story into the late 1960s, and at the end the movie rebounds with the opening scene in Folsom Prison for a poignant finale.
"You've got a song you're singing from your gut, you want that audience to feel it in their gut. And you've got to make them think that you're one of them sitting out there with them too."-- Johnny Cash

Cash's music career started at the same time as the birth of rock n' roll and his rebellious attitude made him at least a kindred spirit. Cash is a legend and he might not sound like a rocker, but he was never compared to Nashville would in the country music either. Johnny Cash was exceptional, with his deep, rich baritone and spare, percussive guitar, made him for what he is still remembered. There may be four dozen tracks from the Man in Black's music career, but there is no doubt about Johnny Cash's place in the musical pantheon.
The movie is a depiction of Cash's life and to support this, they have added many real concert scenes of Cash, his band, and even some of his band people. One thing which makes this movie real is that Phoenix did all of the singing and he did bring a great impression of Cash's deep singing voice and his style. Phoenix as an actor has invested a lot of emotion into the character and especially the more troubled emotions.Although the movie is more about his love life but it does covered every aspect. The chemistry between the two stars exudes greatly throughout the movie, especially those onstage. The movie is a lot better than other biographic movies like Ray etc. and you can experience originality in the characters and have a closer look to Cash's life. Read More
