Qualitative and quantitative analyzes and evaluations have been employed in collecting and using the data to inform on the green supply chain. Through the use of qualitative and quantitative approaches, relevant literature and use of the questionnaire were used to inform on IBM’s supply chain. Four clusters of questions were incorporated into understanding the operations at IBM. The clusters are sustainable procurement, internal process, corporate social responsibility, and reverse logistics. Each of the clusters had specific questions, and the answers were ranked between 1 and 5: the rate was based on the level of agreement in which 1 was lowest while 5 was highest. The findings and analysis indicate that IBM has incorporated numerous measures to advance the requirements of the green supply chain. However, additional information is required to improve sustainability measures. The recommendations to improve the green supply chain at IBM include:
  • Integrating the suppliers into the supply chain through emphasizing green supply chain
  • Continuous education and sensitizing the community on green supply chain
  • Continuous research and processes should be done to advance the requirements of the green supply chain by IBM
  • Environmental and climate change is common across the world. The world inhabitants are seeing unpredictable weather patterns ranging from hurricanes to rains. People, organizations, and governments are becoming aware of the consequences associated with a lack of appropriate measures to sustain the environment. Organizations and companies are using fossil fuels and other methods, which are not environmentally friendly. It results in the depletion of the ozone layer contributing to numerous challenges to the inhabitants of the earth. Climate change does not affect only human beings but fauna and flora across the world. Companies have understood the importance of sustainability and preserving the environment resulting in the introduction of new measures to sustain the environment. The measures range from the use of renewable energy to supply chain requirements. An organization, which has capitalized on the requirements of sustainability of the environment, is IBM. The paper discusses the background of IBM and defines green supply in the first part. The first part provides an overview of the IBM background including the industry it operates and also discusses green supply chain including its definition.
