Data Mining in Healthcare Management This report is an analysis of the proposed projects for the hospital and how they will improve the relationship between the hospital and the public. The report will assess each category that has been suggested and determine if the projects are viable when it comes to establishing a connection with the patients. It will include current literature that has information on each project indicating how well the projects will do. The report also contains a conclusion that summarises the findings and makes recommendations. Sexual Dysfunction Clinic The urology department plans to establish a clinic that treats sexual dysfunction. The department also plans to get an estimate of men in the community who suffer from a form of sexual dysfunction and are between 35 and 60. Given that sexual dysfunctions are still a sensitive topic in the society, it might be challenging for the professionals to get the information right away. Nonetheless, there is a lot of information on the internet about sexual disorders. The Guidelines on Male Sexual Dysfunction (Hatzimouratidis et al., 2015) indicates that thirty-one percent of men have reported having had some sort of sexual dysfunction. The article also indicates that there are different types of sexual dysfunction that include lack of sexual desire (desire disorders), delayed or absent orgasm (orgasm disorders), lack of excitement or arousal during sexual activity (arousal disorders), and pain during intercourse (pain disorders). Men who suffer from sexual dysfunctions are often unable to maintain an erection that is sufficient during intercourse. This is known as erectile dysfunction. They also suffer from retarded ejaculation, or delayed ejaculation, and premature ejaculation where they have no control of the timing of ejaculation. Physical issues such as illnesses (diabetes, neurological disorders etc.), drug abuse, and alcoholism have been attributed to causing sexual disorders. Psychological issues such as depression, sexual trauma, and relationship problems may also cause it. Because of the embarrassment associated with sexual dysfunction, the survey to be conducted among the men might lead to a few opting out due to fear of revealing their situation. It is important that the urology department understands that many men find it difficult to talk about the problem and may delay seeking medical attention for some time. The service should, therefore, provide the utmost privacy and care to the patients. This means that the urologists will require spending time to make a clear diagnosis of the problem and determine the treatment that will be most effective. This might be medicinal or/and therapeutic. Simple interventions like information and reassurance can also solve the problem at times (Hatzimouratidis, Eardley, Giuliano, Moncada, & Salonia, 2015). According to Sigman (2015), the service will be of importance to the community because a medical relationship based on confidentiality and trust will be established between the patient and the physician. Questionnaires that provide open-ended questions and answers will serve to facilitate a more honest and open communication between the physician and the patient. The sexual dysfunction clinic will be bound by law to protect the medical records hence the information will only be available to the medical team. Most importantly, the clinic will enable the community members who are suffering in silence to be able to talk openly and seek medical attention. Moreover, the clinic will lead to awareness being raised among the community members about sexual dysfunction and its management and treatment. Services at Billing and Admission It is undeniable that healthcare is a business and the patients are somehow “customers”. However, they should not be treated as customers in any other business as the hospital is dealing with matters that affect their lives. For patients, being unwell means, they are seeking services that will lead them back to good health. Quality assurance is of importance. It is defined by Gupta & Rokade (2016) as the degree to which health services provide the expected outcomes to individuals. Patient satisfaction is one way to measure quality. The hospital deals with individuals who are not in their full form. They have to make decisions in a short time frame. Therefore, the project to determine how patients are serviced and greeted at billing and admission will determine the kind of relationship the hospital creates with the community. Patients need to feel like the most important people in the hospital because they are (Torpie, 2014). The billing and admissions department requires staff who have the expertise and interpersonal skills that will assure patients that they are the top-most priority for the hospital. The presence of patient management and billing systems will help in delivering bills and medical care. The system allows for the medical records of patients to be readily available to the staff, hence, saves the patient time and energy in having to make drastic decisions. The patient can be identified through these records and financial issues like insurance are readily available. Physicians Concerns The final project seeks to determine the questions that arise from the physicians that have agreed to become part of the panel that treats subscribers. This project is concentrated on the internal matters of the hospital. It is important to address these concerns to ensure that the public does not receive services from disgruntled professionals. After patients, the physicians are the next important people in the hospital. Being on top of addressing their worries is important in ensuring that quality services are provided to the public. Some concerns such as payment, addressing and treating new patients, providing medical care for serious illnesses, and scheduling (Zedong, 2016). The public can only establish relations with the hospital if they encounter physicians who are satisfied. Issues such as limited time with patients due to a high workload should be addressed. Distribution of healthcare resources should be done equally so that the professionals can provide more service time and care. Management of patient’s records will improve the relationship between the doctor and the patient as there will be able to deal with the patients easily and effectively. A fair workload is of importance as this will enable the doctors to dedicate their attention to their patients in a more efficient way. Training programs will also help in making the doctors more approachable and friendly. Concerns might also arise in communication between doctors and administration. There should be effective communication to allow the smooth flow of information between the two. This allows the patient to be more at ease and to avoid repetition. Identifying the physician's concerns will make work and service delivery much easier Conclusion These projects that the hospital seeks to undertake address issues that are most often ignored. The projects will promote cohesion between the hospital and the community. The clinic will make sexual dysfunction a topic that can be discussed openly even in public. Providing quality service in billing and admission will help in maintaining the public’s trust and satisfaction. Finally, addressing the concerns raised by the physicians their comfort and in turn, make them more approachable.
