The paper 'A Comparison of the Key Success Factors between Implementing Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma" is a great example of a management capstone project. The aim of this paper is to investigate and identify the key success factors of implementing lean manufacturing and six sigma in a separate manner. The study applies a quantitative approach and statistical analysis tools to determine the results collected from the French industry. Findings revealed that there exist significant statistical differences between implementing lean and six sigma across the common success factors such as culture change, communication, and involvement of employees, among others.
Furthermore, findings disclosed that some of the common success factors were similar including top management commitment, skill and expertise, and linking method to supplier among others. The findings assist an organization to be more careful while determining the appropriate method to enable exploration between lean and six sigma based on the capacity of an organization to apply the success factors and within the success factors of each method. Furthermore, the study was executed through various investigations, tools and techniques to determine the success levels of implementing lean manufacturing and Six Sigma in the French industry.
Literature reviews regarding the comparison of key success factors of lean and six sigma have not been conducted earlier, which have been considered in the study.IntroductionLean Manufacturing is considered as a manufacturing philosophy, which is adopted by companies to ensure that the costs involved in production are reduced and unnecessary wastes are eliminated from the production mechanism. Whereas, Six Sigma is concerned with the identification as well as the elimination of the defects in the business mechanisms and processes by paying attention to the performance attributes that are considered critical for customers.
Many companies research today to achieve the best performance through implementing lean and six sigma. Lean and Six sigma have motivated many industries to implement with their organization to improve quality, improve productivity, reduce cost, and satisfied customer while there are many industries often fail to implements the method either lean or six sigma or combined of these two methods.
