From the views presented in this article, I have been able to make a number of similarities among the successful and failed procurement projects. Thus it is of great quintessence that all the stakeholders in the procurement part come together and change the approaches in this area. The conventional procurement projects which had been largely used before are no longer effective and thus the needs of changing with today’s advancements. From this article, I have been able to understand the three proposed “wise” methods as the author calls them. This marks the areas in the new procurement methods as early contractual involvement, transparency and accountability in this important process. The information which I have acquired from this readings have definitely changed my perception about adopting the new forms of procurement based on their relevance, applicability and the fact that they have been tested and found effective. My aim now is to share the knowledge I have with my colleagues through discussions and other forums so that they too can help maintain the important role which the procurement process plays in our world despite the field. Udom (2015) indicates that three “wise” procurement methods should be boosted by cost led procurement, integrated project insurance and lastly two stage open book method.
Dominick (2015) hypothesizes the needs of business professionals in assessing whether their internal customers view them as ethical or not. This is important since it goes beyond just setting the regular ethical standards towards ensuring that they are implemented to the latter. In this article one of the areas which should be scrutinized for ethics include the purchasing area that links the firm with other external stakeholders. To explore this topic further, the author has placed the purchasing ethics into seven vital areas and likelihoods events which are likely to take place within the workplace. Unethical issues within the purchasing department usually occur during the interactions between the cross-functional teams. Among the areas which are unethical in the purchasing are include a purchasing member end up accepting fits offered to them despite the value of the gift from a supplier.
This scenario is quite common which I have experienced for instance is a member of the purchasing team having a personal relationship with a corresponding member from the supply team. In my life, I have experienced a number of times when a person from the purchasing team owns a supply stock and engages in ways of making sure that they get the tender for the supply. This is wrong and largely unprofessional and firms should not be able to encourage such activities. Organizations should be able to find the right mechanism of identifying the seven common unethical situations and providing the needed solutions appropriately (Dominick, 2015).
From this analysis I have learnt that minute issues such as getting a pen from a member of either side engaged in the purchasing process is wrong and quite unethical. This is because of the attachments which can come as a result and have an effect on the outcome of the engagements. In this case then, I have learnt not to receive or offer another person a gift in the course of the rendezvous by the members. Similarly, I feel the needs of ensuring that I have no personal or financial relationship with the members in the same negotiations table and thus I should always maintain professionalism at all times and costs. Further to this, it is up to the organization and me to ensure that the internal customers are also educated on how to ensure that they maintain the set ethical standards. Such a move will change the whole purchasing encounters to be always autonomous, transparent and true to the ethical values of the organizations. Dominick (2015) proposes that the best way of achieving the right purchasing ethical is through perceiving the situations “through the eyes of the customer.”
