In order to critically explain the major functional areas of the IT program in the NHS, the discussion section covers relevant theoretical ideas and concepts associated with the subject area. The case primarily deals with the growth and inception of National Programme for IT in the NHS. The case highlights the growth of the program since its inception in the NHS in the year 2006. It has been comprehended that the program was initiated with the intention to ensure positive reform within the NHS in the form of improvement in performance, improvement in the delivering services to the people and others. The program involved extensive use of IT with the intention to enhance the operational efficacy of the sector to a certain extent.

The program is being managed at the national level by the Department of Health of the state (National Audit Office, 2008). According to an in-depth understanding of the National IT programme in the NHS, it has been identified that the project includes a wider scope in terms of increasing operational efficiency of different the NHS healthcare services and activities. According to the observation of the project activities, the IT programme is designed with the aim of reforming the way of using information by the NHS in England (Schwalbe, 2013).
