Opportunities
• I have started an entry-level job at a medium energy engineering firm in Shanghai, a leading Chinese energy management consultancy. I certainly believe this will be a boundless experience and will go a great way in helping me find my specific niche. My career will then advance steadily into a managerial role in the foreseeable future.
• With time, I could do my Master’s degree and hopefully a PhD in matters relating to green energy and energy efficiency.
• I have been presented with a financial award by the Department of Science and Technology to assist in the energy projects that I could accept
• I have been an opportunity to assist in teaching at a local technical diploma college which will be worthy if I ended up venturing into lecturing
• I also help organize motivational talks targeting female university students in science through a charitable, educational organization
Threats
• Managing life in the city is too expensive, and one needs a sustainable constant flow of a sizeable amount of cash to survive.
• While pursuing my Master’s degree and PhD, I would like to land a full scholarship that could take me to a reputable university in Germany, the United Kingdom or the United States of America.
• Many of the work opportunities that enable one to have enough experience are competitive and mostly give stipends for upkeep. Furthermore, they put you through long probation before you start earning a salary commensurate to your work input.
• Engineering is a career line that demands lots of accreditation by professional bodies that take time to recognize you and give you a practising license (Baruah, p 2).
My Career Goal
To be a project manager and utilize my abilities in a reputable organization that will enable me to learn, grow and further my skills and knowledge in Engineering, Business, and Management. I anticipate this to happen in the next two years and develop my credentials to contribute positively to the expansion and prosperity of the firm.
Why I Have This Goal and How It Helps Me Get What I Want In Life
The goal is essential in the timely realization of my dreams, goals and ambitions in being a successful corporate executive in the energy management multinational. In addition, it will help me launch my consultancy business in matters of energy efficiency and project management in engineering. To successfully achieve all this, it is important to aggressively acquire the necessary skills within the shortest time possible. A reputable company is preferred because it exposes a person to world-class management techniques and requisite development networks.
How to know if I have achieved the goal or not
I will institute a workable self-evaluation tactic. The continuous self-assessment will be made within a three-month cycle. I will put down every milestone, progress; new skill acquired, networks development. If it is done for the first two cycles totalling six months, a reliable pattern will be noticed. Therefore, if there is an unusual occurrence in the subsequent months, then a corrective step will be taken appropriately. When I have a progressive promotion and create resourceful contacts in my network, my goal will be achieved. If none of the above happens, I shall not have achieved my goal.
Strategies applied in achieving my goal as desired
• Make a point of constantly applying to great organizations of choice and attend conferences that allow me to network with industry titans.
• Enroll on a project management course in a recognized institution
• Start a blog that will enhance my knowledge in energy and help me create resourceful networks. A blog will also market my expertise and expose my writing and communication abilities.
