My Responsibility as an SGM/CSMThe SGM/CSM post is a high rank in the military and one I required to possess the best leadership qualities in order to lead the battalion he/ she is entrusted with. The sergeant is obligated to look over the battalion as they perform their duties as well as attend to their needs. In order to lead the battalion well, a sergeant should, therefore, be ready to lead by example so that he/she can develop personally and help his battalion develop.As a Command Sergeant Major or Sergeant Major, I would ensure that I am honest with my battalion.

Honesty drives responsibility and hence I would ensure that honesty is upheld so that the battalion serves the nation responsibly (Leatherman, 2008). I would ensure that there is constant communication upwards and downwards so that the management and the soldiers work cordially. I would be assertive with what I do so that my battalion inherits the same character from me. I would emphasize on commitment to all duties and responsibilities and lead by example by performing my duties effectively and on time.

Bearing in mind the global financial crisis, I would be very strict on wasting resources (Leatherman, 2008). My battalion would learn to operate under minimal resources so that they can adapt to such situations. Minimal resources prompt creativity, which is necessary for any team. A creative battalion would be flexible in times of war. I would always inspire my team by appreciating their accomplishments. This would make them feel motivated, and they would aspire to achieve more (Leatherman, 2008).
