Crashing project or activities is performed on the critical path to reduce the overall project duration period (Pinto 302).

This is because crashing projects or activities outside the critical path increase overall cost. It also only reduces the time for the completion of a single activity, but not the overall time of the project completion. Therefore, it is advisable to crash activities that lie, on the critical path to reduce the time for project completion and extra penalties.
