In this report I will present a detailed analysis of the planning and management process for the restoration. In this scenario the present project will offer a more detailed plan regarding the implementation of the effective measures for controlling the project that is going down due to less effective management and planning. This project is about the restoration of the Arbours and Avery in the lost Elizabethan Knott Garden at Kenilworth Castle. 2. Introduction Effective project management always guarantees successful project completion. Though, sometime negligence in effective handling and controlling the project tasks lead to failure of the overall project. The same thing happens to the construction project for the restoration of the Arbours and Avery in the lost Elizabethan Knott Garden at Kenilworth Castle. This happened due to the costly material, difficult to source materials, as well as use of less specialist technicians to carry out their work. This project is part of an ambitious 2.5 million restoration project by English Heritage. However, to make this project successful MD of the construction company has contracted our team to develop and manage this project. In this case the present report will offer a detailed analysis of the development and implementation of the new planning and handling strategy for the corporate for the successful completion of the project. 3. Problem Situation English Heritage has initiated a project to restore the Arbours and Avery in the lost Elizabethan Knott Garden at Kenilworth Castle with the budget of 2.5 million restoration project. However, immediately after the beginning of the project problems and difficulties have appeared in effective handling and management of the project. The main problems appeared are the technical problem through the Arbour’s complex construction whereby the unusual architect’s specification has proven to be flawed. The project stopped due to the failure to meet the quality and health as well as safety standards set. Here we also view problems of hidden costs prompting individuals to look for shortcuts that are not being captured by the project tracking, means there is no visibility of actions. Therefore the overall project has turned out to be a mess in case of its development. 4. Initiating and Proposing Project After viewing all potential problems in effective handling and managing the project, we are going to propose new project management initiatives and planning tasks to effectively manage this project. Here below I will outline some of main aspects of the new proposed project: 4.1. Business needs The main business need is to improve and augment the overall capabilities of the business to uphold the corporate identity in the market. In this scenario our construction company desires to enhance its business credibility in the overall market. Thus, this project is very impotent for our company in enhancing the business capability of managing and handling complex business projects. 4.2. Market demand To fulfil the market demands we need to establish solid strategy for the overall handling of the project. The market demands to formulate effective policies and procedures for the effective and successful project completion within time and resources. 4.3. Customer request In supporting this failed project we need to assess customer demands. The effective customer needs assessment leads us to successful project completion. In this project we listen to customer demands to formulate effective project policy. 4.4. Legal requirement This project is about the restoration of the heritage of nation. In case of its restoration we need to take care for a lot of aspects for its effective completion and enhanced management. In this scenario we have to take permission and conduct regular assessment of the new restoration we are going to establish. 4.5. Social need This project is going to restore a pre-historical place to improve its overall design and glory. In this scenario the place we are going to restore needs to be according to public expectation. In this scenario we need to fulfil all the public needs in case of restoration process as well as there should be no damage to historical place. 5. Mission Statements The underplaying project is about the restoration of the old Arbours and Avery in the lost Elizabethan Knott Garden at Kenilworth Castle. In this scenario the management of our corporation and project clients want to establish some solid policy and effective management techniques to manage this project effectively. Here English Heritage wants that this project should be completed on time and within specified resources. In the pervious attempt English Heritage was failed due to less effective planning. Thus, at the present, there is need to offer better planning and management skills to this project in course of effective resource planning and cost management. In this way the project will be completed within time and cost. 6. Key Roles in Project Management This section will present a detailed analysis of the key roles of the project team and its management and activities in the overall project. This section will outline some of main aspects of the project stakeholders and project team. 6.1. The Sponsor This project is sponsored by the English Heritage. The English Heritage is a national agency that is responsible for managing the national heritage and old national treasures. 6.2. Project Manager I am working as a project manager of the overall project for the restoration of the old heritage. 6.3. Team Members The organization structure selection and its implementation provide the project manager and other project workers an assurance of the better working communication and handling. Here we have following project team: Project manager Consultant Contractor Site Designer Financial Manager Demolition Labour Electricity Worker Workers For the better project execution and management we require more focused and enthusiastic team members’ involvement and their creative contribution to the project execution. For this purpose we have to plan for the daily off-work meetings where we will discuss the current progress and next plan. This forum will be for the discussion of goals achieved the progress check and challenges teams are facing in the execution of this project. Here we will also call for the documentation of each project phase that will include the working cabling routes, equipment layout, and roof design and working layouts. Here we will also require system design documentation, meeting minutes and overall systems description. 6.4. Stakeholders This section presents the stakeholders of the project and their interests in overall project. Now I will present the task and responsibility structure for the overall project stakeholders and activities. Project initiation In this project development phase we will initiate the project. Here we will develop a project team, identify areas of development, main needs of project and requirements. This will also involve the negotiations to clients for the settlement of the project budget and time plan. 7.2. Project planning Project planning will involve the planning for the project main phases, resource, implementation, working plan, risk management, change control management and human resource management. In this phase we will identify the main working time and budget plan for the project execution. Raw (Construction) material development This phase of the project will involve the deployment of the raw and construction material on working site. 7.3. Machinery placement In this phase of the project we will deploy the main construction machinery on the site for the further working and construction. 7.4. Construction and restoration This phase of the project will involve contracting for the project development and working. In this phase we will present the main plan and budgetary details to clients and take proper accepting letter. This will also involve the main change control and quality assurance parameters definition. This phase of the project will comprise the main activities related to construction and restoration process. 7.5. Quality assessment This stage is about the quality assurance and assessment of the construction and restoration works at construction site. This stage will involve the assessment of the main working and development through the project. Here we ensure that all construction is done in a better way. 8. Statement of Requirements This project is about the overall handling and effective restoration of the Arbours and Avery in the lost Elizabethan Knott Garden at Kenilworth Castle. In this scenario the management of the corporate and clients needs less damage to original structure of the building. The other main factor is about the completion of project within given time and resources. Here we are having following main requirements for the restoring old heritage place: Completing the project on time Completing project within time limits Making no damage to old place Restoring the old heritage according to its historical glory Offering more quality based work 9. Scope of Work (SOW) To restore the national heritage we will add our contribution to national heritage preservation programme. This project will also add some effective project management capabilities to our overall project management approach. In this scenario the present project is aimed to properly handle overall investment of English Heritage. From the client’s point of view this project will restore the old heritage of the nation. In this scenario this project will offer better management and handling of the overall construction project. This project will offer effective handling and management control over different project tasks and activities. This project will enhance the overall performance of working capabilities for enhancement of the project management capabilities. 10. Risk Assessment and Mitigation The purpose of the risk management plan is to provide guidelines to deal with any risk throughout the project. These risks are the indicator of uncertainties about the future. In this section I will identify and analyze the risks so that project teams could be prepared for their potential occurrence and diminish or eliminate their possibility of occurring. 10.1. Risk Identification Here I have applied the process for risk identification; for this I have reviewed and analyzed the following records for the identification of risk: Analysis of the work Breakdown Structure (WBS) Analysis of high level or main deliverables Project team input as well as requirements Analysis of change requests developed following consultation by means of sponsor Stakeholder input as well as requirements 10.2. Main risks We have faced the same difficulties that we have assumed in the project. So here next we have to imagine more projects related assumption so that in future we would be able to tackle worse conditions. In assumption we also have to see the risks that we can face during this project. This can be related to nature, finance, material or workforce. For instance, we can face the rainy weather; we have to keep in mind point like this. Then we can face some financial crises. We can also face the problems like that shortage of material and construction equipment. This project is about the restoration of old building. In case of damage to old structure can also offer some of vital construction problems. In this scenario we need to stick with the project break down stature and cost plan. In this scenario we need to keep track of the project tasks and activities for effective handling and management of the project tasks. 11.
