Being the project manager, the best way to go about this issue is to contact individuals in senior management positions and the Board members to deliberate on this matter and chart a way forward in a bid to prevent reoccurrence of such cases (Hersey, Blanchard and Johnson, 2008). It would be of significance as a project manager to identify and act on any internal and external factors that may be contributing to low team morale and extension or expansion of project objectives. As the project manager, I would encourage all project members to enhance or heighten communication and relations among themselves as well as to those in management positions as this would help identify the underlying problems and dissatisfaction of employees, hence act on them amicably.
Leadership in project management is defined as a dynamic course of action or practice that controls the sentiments, passion, and understanding of all individuals involved in a particular project in a bid to bring into line individual actions with the objectives of the project (Williams, 2006). Considering the fact that there is low team morale, this situation would be conveyed effectively through a change in leadership style. It is evident that the predecessor had poor management skills. His poor management skills are portrayed by the regular alterations and amendments that resulted to the extension of the project’s timeframe.
This may lead to unfinished projects or projects giving altered results varying from what was initially planned. Changing the style of leadership or management is important as an effective leadership method controls the performance and manners of conduct of employees. According to Williams (2006), adopting effective management skills enhances relationships, understanding, and encourages employees in their work. As the project manager in this institution, adopting effective management strategies would make it easier for me to align project activities and precedence with project objectives.
The history of the organization clearly shows that the previous project manager had poor time management skills. Although scope creep can be caused by external factors such as competition, it can also be as a result of poor time management. Implementing a valuable leadership style ensures efficient time management directed towards development and enhancement of competence in all stakeholders. It is important to elucidate that management assists project managers to efficiently position and direct anticipations as well manipulate or control the actions and activities of all individuals involved in the project when conditions within the project are transformed or modified (Williams, 2006).
Low team morale, scope creep, and incidences of several group players resigning at the same time can be prevented through a number of ways.
