Moreover, the quality process control would also be focused to gain performance excellence in the healthcare industry. LITERATURE REVIEW The quality assurance could be defined as all those activities that help in the defining, designing, assessing, monitoring and improving the quality within the healthcare industry (QA Project) (Franco et al., 1-50). Some of the prominent factors that are essential to quality care include; adequate drugs distribution, financing, human resource management and professional training systems.

All of the mentioned factors ensure effective quality assurance with an aim to achieve quality healthcare. Total Quality Management is the most prominent approach to quality as it includes various profound concepts, philosophies and thoughts that significantly help in improving the quality of processes (Lizuka, Munechika, and Tsuru, 1-31). The principles that must be taken into consideration with intent to improve quality standards and quality control in the healthcare management system are as follows (Patel); 1.

Customer focused organization; ability to understand the customer’s current and future needs. Meeting the requirements of the customers while striving to exceed the expectation of the customers. 2. Leadership; ability to guide the workforce to work as a single unit to create and maintain effective internal environment. 3. Involvement of people; the workforce from all the levels should be involved in the process to fully utilize their abilities for greater result. 4. Process approach; ability of the organization to manage the activities and resources as a process to achieve greater efficiency. 5. Continual improvement; to continually improve the performance and quality of the organization. 6. Factual approach to decision making; ability of the organization to conduct proper and accurate analysis of data and information to make effective decisions. 7. Mutually beneficial relationship; the dependency of an organization and its suppliers is quite high due to which the each should work to improve the relationship that would help in the creation of value. 8. System approach to management; ability of the organization to identify, understand and manage the interrelated processes to enhance the effectiveness along with efficiency of the organization in the accomplishment of desired objectives.

ANALYSIS Mayo Clinic is state-of-the-art organization that is ranked in the top 20 medical centers in the United States (Smith and Gronseth, 27-38). The organization has consistently been working to serve the community by adopting quality management techniques by reinvesting all the income into patient care, research and education programs. Quality is one of the most prominent aspects of Mayo Clinic through which the non-profit organization was able to significantly improve its operational effectiveness (Mayo Clinic).

The organization values the importance of TQM in its operational processes. By doing so, the enterprise is provided with significant opportunities to identify and eliminate duplicate efforts (i.e. work that does not add value to the patient) while continually focusing on quality (Mayo Clinic). The concept of TQM was implemented at Mayo Clinic in the year 1991 (Gutner and Adams, 9). With the implementation of TQM, Mayo Clinic aimed towards improvement in the quality while reducing the door-to-balloon time which would eventually lead to decrease in death rate.
