? ID Lecturer Ramifications of working abroad (Hong Kong). What can you do to make it worthwhile? It is always a difficult proposition to work abroad and seek success from it instantly. I know that moving to Hong Kong would be one decision that would require immense thinking because it asks me to showcase my true abilities in terms of networking, managing things on my own and basically finding a new home for me and my family which is not such an easy process. I am of the view that the ramifications for undertaking the same are more negative than being positive all this while. This is because there is a great amount of work that is needed to be done plus the fact that I have to get my act together and move to a wholly new place all on my own. Leaving one’s own country and relocating to another place and calling it as the new and adopted homeland is indeed a Herculean task because it involves renewed networking possibilities and the eventual myth of getting failed and then coming back to the earlier home nonetheless. It is indeed something that poses as a risk if seen within the correct settings and my case has been no different. When I contemplate the kind of risks that I am about to undertake, I think of both the positives and negatives and then I weigh them to find out which pan is heavier of the two. I have always believed in taking risks throughout my life but it is the calculated risk that I am always banking upon rather than shooting in the dark which does not bring down any success for any one. If I move to Hong Kong, I would have to forego all my personal and professional ties that have been built with the passage of time within the United States (Whalen, 2011). This would mean that my journey will start from scratch as far as Hong Kong is concerned. It shall be a new home for me and hence a totally new and revitalizing experience. A fresh beginning is about to unfold and I need to be ready for it nonetheless. Hence the ramifications can both be positive as well as negative but what I want to be ready about is how well I can take the two of these in my stride and move ahead incessantly to build upon who I am and what I shall achieve at the end of the day. Since I have my family to look after as well, my decisions are going to affect them undoubtedly as moving to a new country is always a difficult yet attainable process. One has to look after so many aspects that it seems like a very arduous task in entirety. Moving ahead, I need to compare each and everything with what I am getting in the United States. This puts me in a direct comparison with what I shall receive within Hong Kong and how I will muster up enough confidence to get myself and my family to the new country and start life afresh. It would mean that I compare each and everything in a very one on one basis, and find out where I am going wrong and what positives and negatives remain for me in the long run scheme of things. There is just so much for me to fathom that I feel I might be lost somewhere in the middle. I need to consider the salary issues which will keep coming every month as far as my job domains are concerned (Sibeck, 2011). Also the fact that I need to find a space for myself and my family is one of the most difficult tasks that I have to undertake at this point in time. It will tell me exactly where I stand as far as making this relocation decision towards Hong Kong. In essence all my comparisons would be done with the United States because this is the country that will bid farewell to. I shall consider the case of transportation within Hong Kong and how much is it of a hassle to move from one place to another. I will study the amount of traffic there is within Hong Kong and what I would need to do to move from one suburb to another. These are some of the salient aspects that I shall be comparing on a persistent basis between where I am living currently (United States) and where I intend shifting to (Hong Kong). If only I am able to find all these answers within the shortest possible time, my decision will become easier and the ramifications shall be weighed along one another easily. Moreover, the language and cultural communication barriers need to be brought under the scanner as well. This is because within Hong Kong the people prefer speaking in their own languages and dialects, and this shall pose as a hindrance in my working domains as far as the educational realms of my young ones. My family would have to overcome this barrier with sheer hard work as learning the Chinese language is not an easy job. Also the religious differences will pose as a problem because currently I reside within my own religious environment and the decision to move towards Hong Kong would mean that my family would be under the jurisdiction of a wholly new religion that shall mean something totally different to what we are accustomed to. However, this is one aspect that we as a family respect and look forward to witnessing a change within our realms, and have little or negligible issue about. What affects me most is that if I return to the United States at some point in the future, I would have to recollect and redo all the relationships and networking options that I find myself wired with at the present. It would mean that I am doing something totally anew (Lauring, 2011). Also my experience of the United States market would have changed by that time and thus the workforce levels may seem differently to what these are in the present day and age. What this implies is how well I connect the broken links and how effectively I am able to muster up confidence to shed my inner fears and go out there back to the United States and start afresh, again. Lastly, I would have to acclimatize myself with the Hong Kong workforce and the norms and routines that engulf the Hong Kong workers. This would be the basis of my success in the times to come and there seems to be no short-fix solution available for that. I need to gain the insight regarding the Hong Kong market at the earliest because this will set the ball rolling and find out alternate pathways and settings upon which my success is dependent (Chaney, 2011). What I need now is the vision to change things on my own and explore the Hong Kong work areas to the maximum possible limits. I need to start on this sojourn – the sooner the better. My hard work, dedication and compete adherence with the Hong Kong’s rules and policies as far as work realms are concerned would tell me how well I adjust within its working quarters and how effectively my family becomes a mainstay within the new region. All said and done, I look forward to this new and exciting challenge that is coming up in the future, and wish to give my very best so that I could reap the rewards not only in the near future but also when I am old and give up the job altogether.
