? Case study: Speedy feet athletics club systems analysis Number: Lecturer: Use case i. Mohamed (Registration advisor) is responsible for the registration of new athletes. Receives the registration forms from the athletes who are interested in joining the club. ii. Ethan (Competitions advisor) is the person responsible for coming up with the competition list and the sequence of competitions that take place. He will receive the athletes interested in competitions in a given season and combine the information with the venues that are available. He will then come up with the calendar of the competitions that will be done in a given season. iii. Hannah (Venues Advisor) is the person responsible with managing venues and the facilities that are available in each of the venues. Hannah is responsible with ensuring that the venues are in good condition for the competitions that are coming. iv. Timekeeper is the person who is responsible with ensuring that time is followed and all activities are done according to the stipulated time. v. Athlete is key person taking place in in the competition. User specifications From the use case diagram, the use case that I will give specifications is that of Ethan, the club competition advisor. He manages most of the processes that happen within the club. He ensures that the athletes get the calendar and make sure that the venues are in order. He compiles the calendar basing on the facilities that are available in each of the venue. Some of the user specifications for the competitions advisor are stated below: i. The system should be able to give the available venues that competition can take place ii. The system should give the athletes that have been accepted to take part in the competition in a given season iii. It should give the facilities that are available in a given venue so that the competition can be scheduled basing on this information iv. The it should give the days that competitions can take place v. It should list the people who can supervise the various competitions vi. It should give the list of the athletes that have been rejected so that letters can be sent to them vii. It should be able to send letters to rejected athletes viii. It should have the time keepers who will manage the time of the competitions. Usability goals Basing on the competitions advisor, the usability goals that are required include: i. Effectiveness. Will the system do what is designed to do? The system should do what has been designed to do. The effort to come up with a list of competitions and athletes for a given season. ii. Utility. Does the system, provide enough utility to carry out tasks that are done by a competitions advisor as natural as possible? The usability of the system should be able to accommodate a range of tasks that are normally done by competitions advisor. iii. Efficiency. This usability goal tries to answer the question of time. How long will the competitions advisor take to handle issues that are at hand? The new system should be efficient so that it takes less time to perform the tasks designed to perform. It should take less time to perform tasks that have been designed to be done. It should be faster while scheduling and compiling the calendar (Dennis, Wixom & Roth 2008). User experience goals The system should be able to enhance the experience of the user when using the system. In our case example, the following are the user experience that is required for the competitions advisor: i. Should be satisfying. The system should satisfy the needs of the competitions advisor so that he is able to be productive in what he does. It should be productive and meet the needs of a competitions advisor. ii. The system should also be rewarding. The competitions advisor should be able to feel that he has been productive in undertaking the tasks that have been assigned to him. The competitions advisor should be in a position to undertake the tasks that have been assigned and be able to undertake what has he has been doing in the manual process and even add some more tasks and feel as productive or more productive in the long run (Gupta 2008). Wireframe The use case that will be demonstrated here is that of Register. This use case entails ensuring that the athletes register for the event so that their details are looked into. This use case is undertaken by the athletes. Before a season starts, there will be the registration of athletes. This registration entails sending the names of the events that one need to participate in. This use case is the starting point of all the other activities that will take place in the competition. It is the starting point of the event. Registration will help to have the athletes that will participate in the event. All athletes will wait for approval from the administration before they start participating in any event. The starting point is therefore the registration process. The athletes who do not qualify in the registration will get the disqualification letters. The rest will proceed with the process. The registration process is normally done by the registration administration officer. At the time of developing the system, this position has been held by Mohamed. He is the registration advisor and officer for the club. He is the one who receives the registration forms of the athletes who are interested in the events of a given season. It is then that he will review and send them to the competitions advisor who will review these applications and either accept or reject a given athlete. The design meets the specifications that were mentioned earlier in the following aspects: It is effective in that it serves the purpose in which it was designed to do. It was required to capture the details of the athlete. The form helps achieve this goal. The details if the athlete is captured in this design. There is the name of the athlete and the events in which they want to participate in. the new system does what it has been designed to do. All information that has been desired to achieve is included. Another aspect which is captured in the design is that it is efficient. Efficient in that it takes less time to capture all these details. Unlike the manual system where someone had to look for writing materials in order to capture and send this detail, this system gets the details of the users automatically. Another aspect that is captured well is that of utility. The utility of the system is well taken care of. The range of tasks that are captured in the form meet the requirements and the predictions of what were needed before. In addition, if there are some tasks which have not been captured, they will be captured by way of adding these tasks. With an information system, it is not hard to add any functionality which is not there in the current system. Another aspect of the new system is that of satisfaction. The new system is satisfying in that the users get the information they need in a simple manner. They do not have to have to have a manual system in order to capture the details they want to have them captured. It is also satisfying because the time it takes to capture the details is not much like that experienced in the manual process. Most of the users do not have time to undergo a long process. The new interface that has been created is therefore simple and takes less time to undergo the whole process. The new system also is rewarding. Rewarding in that the users feel that they are productive in the whole process they are undertaking. Rewarding due to the fact that they are able to know the registration process has been successful and that their forms are being looked into. In the manual process, they might miss to enter some important details in the process of registration. In this state, they are not able to know that they have missed this information and they will have to wait for a long time before they get the response. In this case, they will be disappointed to learn that the whole process has not been successful. With the new process of registration, they get instant alerts that there is an error that has been encountered when registering. They will then correct the mistake and therefore send only the correct details and therefore getting the right results. After the registration in the new system, they will only wait for the confirmation from the registration officer. In the old system, they would be waiting for two results, the confirmation that the registration process was successful and whether they were accepted.
