Teacher Journal Opinion Article A recent article in the Wall Street Journal revealed that after years of failed attempts, GEis getting out of the banking business. In my opinion, this is long overdue and other businesses of this nature should consider following suit. Having just gone through one of the most severe and prolonged economic downturns since the Great Depression, the problem was compounded by the reality that the federal government was forced to bail out many large financial institutions, as to allow them to fail was not seen as a viable option and one that would have proven disastrous for the country as a whole. These were purely financial institutions, and they had a difficult time staying afloat due largely to poor management, bad investments, and the lack of foresight required to weather difficult economic times. Companies that begin in one industry should not consider branching into the financial sector, as GE has attempted, as to do so all too often results in less than stellar results and can,in the end, adversely affect the American economy as a whole.
The financial sector of any economy is critical to the well being of the nation as a whole. It is important that such institutions are viable and that they operate with integrity in an effort to secure the confidence of an investing public. In addition, sound and prudent banking institutions are required in order to attract outside and foreign investment. Every time a bank fails, or even struggles mightily, it reflects poorly on the nation, and it weakens investor and consumer confidence. In addition, when the banking system is in peril, as it has been for the past six to seven years, credit restrictions are tightened and the economy struggles to grow due to a lack of access to financial capital throughout all sectors of the economy. Even though GE is now exiting from the financial sector, this is another indicator that many such insinuations have simply grown too big to effectively focus solely on the banking end of the business. In the end, this is a further reflection the some business can diversity their portfolio so much that they fail to truly excel at any one aspect. When this occurs in the banking industry, however, the results can have ramifications that are felt around the world.
In 2008, at the outset of the global financial crisis, many large financial institutions simply collapsed under the weight of bad loans and poor lending policies that created an excess of loan obligations that simply could not be repaid. Not only has this ruined the credit portfolio of countless millions of Americans and Europeans, but it has threatened business growth due to the freezing of credit lines that one existed freely. Even fiscally sound businesses have had difficulty gaining access to needed funds in order to expand, which would have served as a spark to a struggling economy, because banks simply did not have the money to lend. So, I say it is about time that multinational corporations get out of the banking business once and for all.

...? Teaching Plan Kolb’s Theory Kolb’s learning theory entails four distinct learning styles which are based on a four stage learning cycle: the learning cycle may as well be interpreted as a training cycle. The model by Kolb is particularly elegant as it offers both a way to understand individual people’s different learning styles as well as an explanation of a cycle of experiential learning which applies to everybody. In his works, Kolb’s includes this cycle of learning as a central principle of his experiential learning theory expressed as a four stag cycle of learning, in this, immediate or concrete experiences provide a basis for observation as well as reflection. These reflections and observations are later assimilated and put...

What does the 3rd space mean to you as a health professional

...Third Space Third Space According to Oldenburg, each individual person has three spaces-the first, second and third. In his opinion, the first space refers to the homes in which they live and those whom they interact with (Oldenburg, 2000). These simply refer to the family members who are present in these homes. The second space refers to the work place which is where most people spend a lot of their time. This is because a typical work day usually consumes up to eight hours each day. On the other hand, the third space is the broader community life which arises from the environment in which a person lives (Eckermann, A.K. et al., 2010). In the context of this assignment,...

In all the contracts that Steve entered into, there was no involvement of a third party as one member of partnership was not aware of the contracts. Steve uses credit in the name of the partnership for personal activities. This goes against the partnership act which brings out the fact that when one partner pledges the credit of the firm for a purpose apparently not connected with the firm’s ordinary course of business, the firm is not bound, unless he is, in fact, specially authorized by the other partners; but this section does not affect any personal liability which may...

Reading the world ideas that matter, Third Edition

... “Reading the world ideas that matter, Third Edition” “Education must enable every child to understand and fulfill this purpose of the age, not defeat it by acquiring the habit of creating divisions and cherishing national prejudices.” (Tagore, 43) This quote suggests that education is a perfect method of fighting racism. When children gather in a school, their common purpose of gaining knowledge and solving problems together should help them overlook their racial differences. This association of children drawn from different races sharing a common pursuit of knowledge is important in achieving racial unity. Children learn to share their strengths to solve problems together than to focus on their natural racial...
