Problem Solving Activity Number r Lecturer Data Problem solving Cloud computing is one of the major fascinating and substantial advancement in the field of information technology particularly in computing and data storage. Over the last decade many organizations and businesses with huge computational needs have embraced the use of cloud computing technology (Raj, Babu, Ariwa, Nirmala & Krishna, 2014). Many attribute this to the convenience and reliability among other advantages that comes with cloud computing.
Several surveys and studies have been done in the past year to ascertain the status of cloud computing. Results of these studies show that most organizations are embracing this technology. According to Raj et al (2014), as most organizations embrace the technology they come to a realization that cloud computing only increases value to the organization but with little challenges during adoption. Some of the notable benefits recorded with this technology include greater scalability, availability, quick access to infrastructure and reliability (Raj et al, 2014).
Vendors of the cloud computing services include dell, IBM, Amazon, google, Microsoft and Oracle. IBM, one of the pioneers of cloud computing technology has been offering cloud computing to all users of the technology for the last decade. They have several products that cater for the different levels of users such as IT leaders, developers and business leaders. For instance, the Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) for integrating the IT infrastructure and applications for the IT leaders. The Platform as a service (PaaS) such as Bluemix platform enables the developers to create apps very fast.
IBM also allows business leaders to run their daily business processes more efficiently and effectively using their wide range SaaS business applications (IBM, 2015).Amazon has been another major player in the field of cloud computing, they are one of the most preferred providers of private, public and hybrid cloud services. Their services are widely used by the health care organizations particularly for next generation DNA sequencing. In a recent summit in San Francisco, the company announced new services and improvements to their existing cloud computing services (Amazon Web Services, Inc., 2015). These new services include the Amazon WAM for deployment and management of apps for Amazon work spaces.
Amazon has been the lead providers of cloud computing services such as the AWS and EC2 cloud services. During the summit, they introduced the AWS market place for the desktop applications. Additionally, Amazon introduced an elastic file system; a shared file storage for their EC2 cloud service. One of the major impediments for implementation of the cloud computing is normally the learnability of most applications. To address this, Amazon unveiled the amazon machine learning to ease the building of smart applications (Amazon Web Services, Inc., 2015).One of the major cloud services provided by Oracle is the Oracle Golden gate computing for private cloud computing.
Oracle has released another version of this application named Oracle Golden Gate version 12. This version of the Oracle Golden gate has new utilities such as extract, replicate and associated utilities that enables the users to create, load and refresh one database to another. Additionally, Oracle has endeavored to secure their cloud services by protecting users and their emails after the Fusion Application production-To-Test (FA-P2T) (Oracle.com, 2015). Dell Corporation also provides some of the best solutions for cloud computing.
They have a variety of cloud computing solutions that will meet the users’ needs. Some of their services range from end to end solutions, client computing and desktop virtualization, cloud-client computing and desktop virtualization community and other cloud computing resources. One of their most recent advancement is the cloud client computing infrastructure solution for the VMware. Dell cloud computing solutions are often reliable and easy to use since they run on available platforms such windows.
Windows Azure from Microsoft is one of the cloud computing solutions that could ultimately be termed as a cloud for modern day business. Windows Azure can integrate on premise applications and data and offers real time processing in the cloud. This cloud solution is also considered fast and affordable. However, security in this platform could be a major issue for implementation of windows Azure (Microsoft Inc., 2015).Google cloud services are foreseen to take over cloud computing particularly the integration of cloud computing to the mobile devices.
Over 70% of smartphones all over the world run on android operating system form google. This will definitely play a major rule in the future of cloud computing. Apart from that, google has in the past few years provided emailing services to almost half of the world. Recently, each email account comes with up to 15GB free storage space. With more innovations and expansion in google analytics, it is evident that google could be the company to watch in the future for provision of cloud computing (Kate, 2007).
Generally, the adoption of cloud computing is mainly inhibited by the costs associated with the services and the security concerns particularly for sensitive and confidential data and information. However, with several players such as google finding their way into the niche, prices are bound to reduce especially for public clouds. On the other hand the costs for private and hybrid clouds will still remain high given the security mechanisms that have to be put in place (Raj et al, 2014).ReferencesAmazon Web Services, Inc.
