Article Summary Most organizations around the world are not well equipped to deal with problems or issues that arise during their operations. The growing need for organizations to satisfy their every operational activity has pushed management to look for solutions, which otherwise prove to be particularly expensive. The proposal to have a business system in place for every function is proving detrimental to the growth and development of organizations around the world. The cost implications behind such moves are tremendous, and may very well affect the rate of returns that an organization is hoping for, in the long run.

Company-wide information cannot be viewed accurately with such systems in place, which makes it difficult for numerous organizations to salvage the situation at an early stage. In today’s ever changing business environment, this is a challenge that is growing and may fail to be addressed as time goes by, leaving competitors at an advantage. The article being summarized talks about the fragile nature of business systems that most organizations incorporate to handle their operations. The purpose and nature of such systems is to ensure that most organizations handle some of the issues that arise in most areas of their operations, but from different angles or approaches.

Business systems put in place require the technological know-how that may work toward ensuring that most operations conducted are at par with the changing times (Ainsworth 1). However, this is proving costly to most organizations. It is my view that when introducing something new into an organization, few people may be well-equipped to deal with such a system. This means that employees need to work on training to employ different skills, and bring a different mind-set into the new system. This takes time and money, which the organization is not capable of handling (Ainsworth 1).

Businesses around the world are in it for the profits. If the system in place does not work to their advantage, competition might prove a little difficult to manage, especially if they know what to do. The systems that have been put in place may require an organization to forego some of the overall aims so as to protect the investments they have acquired. Reviewing the power and influence of business systems in an organization may be risky and expensive (Ainsworth 1), but it is something that has to be done to avert future disasters and a possible collapse of a business.
