Difference between Modern Taking and Traditional Taking Proposal The objective of this research is to explore the diverse issues concerning the differences between modern and traditional note taking. Furthermore, there is the need to determine whether these differences in traditional and modern note taking have an effect on the overall performance of those individuals taking the said notes. This research will adopt a design that will explore the various aspects of note taking, both traditional and modern and will be based on a qualitative analysis of the available material. The decision to adopt this approach when carrying out the research was made mainly because it is the best option through which to explore note taking and the main differences between modern and traditional methods. In this way, the research will be able to obtain the most relevant information that could be used to develop quantitative studies on the subject matter. The findings of the case study will be complimented by a survey of a range of related literature on the various aspects of note taking as well as show how individuals have come to adapt to it. A preference will be given to the most recent literature in order to align the substance of the study to the prevailing challenges that have been brought about by adaptation to modern methods of note taking as understood together with the objectives of the study. The information will be organized according to the specific themes that relate to the explicit objectives of the subject. The main audience of this study is intended to be students at all levels of education because it is they who stand to benefit from learning about and developing the skills necessary to ensure that they are effective note takers. Difference between Modern Note Taking and Traditional Note Taking Note taking has evolved in such a diverse manner so that it has moved from being hand written to being written using electronic devices. This has led to the need for there to be more research concerning this evolution and to consider whether it will increase the writing skills of individuals or not. The various forms of note taking that have developed can be said to attract people according to their preferences, with some preferring traditional methods while others prefer the more modern, electronic methods. While this may be the case, it is a fact that the modern method of note taking is slowly but surely overshadowing the traditional methods and this has become a worrying trend considering the continuing lack of writing skills that is developing alongside electronic note taking. There has been a proposition to make a study of the similarities and differences that have developed as a result of the institution of modern methods of note taking. Thus, attempts have been made to show that the development of modern methods of note taking have come to harm the development of the thought process as well as the note taking skills among those individuals using the electronic method. One of the main differences between modern and traditional note taking is that in the former, the process is quite fast mainly because of the various computer applications that have been developed for the purpose. Modern note taking involved a wide range of electronic devices, which are used by individuals at their discretion, and this ensures that they choose the device which best suits their needs. While this has been the case, there has developed the argument that with the use of modern devices in note taking, the writing skills of the individuals who use them has come to deteriorate since most of the applications designed for the purpose often autocorrect those mistakes that have been made by the note taker (Wartski 50). In traditional note taking, it has been argued that individuals managed to improve their writing skills in those situations which they made spelling mistakes when taking notes and when they did so worked towards finding the correct spelling. This ensured that they were able to memorize the correct spellings of words as well as the proper sentence structure that they could use during note taking. It is a fact that there are many qualities which make an effective traditional note taker but these qualities are often very difficult to cultivate and it may take even years to master them. From a personal perspective, there are certain instances where I do not get the essence of issues being discussed until after I go through my notes. Such a situation requires an individual’s persistence in order to develop an interest in the issue being discussed and a written description would go a long way in ensuring the development of this interest. It is therefore important that individuals maintain their note taking skills, whether modern or traditional, at their level best so that when the occasion arises, they may be able to express themselves to others with little or no additional help other than the notes they may have written. It is, therefore, important that individuals have to do their best to ensure that they have developed their note taking skills to such an extent that they are able to efficiently describe their understanding of the subject matter. The use of modern methods of note taking in education has been found to be a solution that provides for the digital automation, recording, and maintenance of information to be studied by the students and it often caters for the need to set up excellence in the tasks needed for the accomplishment of effective learning. This use of electronic means in education, in contrast to traditional methods, can be said to be among the main tools currently being used to help in the further development of the academic abilities of students throughout the world. It has been found that the use of modern note taking enables students to develop an interest in their academics since this is what determines their future lives. It can therefore be suggested that both traditional and modern methods of note taking be used in all relevant contexts because it is the differences between these methods which are also their greatest strengths.
