Analysis of the Greenstein book; The Presidential Difference Authored by apolitical scientist, the presidential difference is a book not only on achievements on different presidents but also on affectivity in leadership. In this book, there is an excellent instructive and fascinating account of the qualities of a president who have served either poorly or well in the big office. This has study of first hundred days of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Fred Greenstein gives a good survey on individual president’s vision, political skill, organizational capacity, cognitive style, emotional intelligence and their respective communicational capabilities. Greenstein argues that success of a given president is in the fate of the emotional intelligence. Bottom line series of judgments is accessible throughout the book and theories behind the success of certain presidents. George W. Bush presidency has a proper review for his two terms and the inclusion of President Barrack Obama style of leadership (Greenstein 29). Further expectations on the effects of this style on presidency and legacy are also of high consideration. Greenstein focuses on presidential achievements for the sake of making each of them a hero and some surpassing others. He also argues that all the presidents’ leadership style is as a result of their economic position, upbringing and family links on a political system. The possibility of emotionally castigating those who are vulnerable and elevate those who are scrupulously low is because of this system. To stigmatize former presidents this writer utilizes dysfunctional families. The truth is that emotionally handicapped types of leaders were not in the office only at his time, but he uses psychological profiles to table a great view of national leaders to the reader. He also makes use of the same to throw dispersion on certain presidents. The author states that each modern president serves as an insight to reveal a distinct tone to this book. This insight utilizes both strength and weakness of a particular president. The variations amongst all the president to the subject provides correct advantage for comparisons and provides an allowance for the expansion of the responsibility sense. All of the presidents have a chronological coverage chapter wise. This permits the reader to skim through the book easily and reader the materials for the president of interest. Despite this, the book’s content is of a perfect relation when read from the beginning to the end in the subsequent analysis. The evolution of each modern president unfolds at the start of the respective chapters. Every president has attention briefly on each chapter. The writer traces the early childhood life of the individual president then analyses the political career history from the beginning to the end victory. The president’s manner of handling of the historical event during their time in service is also of great importance in this book this rate the success of this individual leader with respect to the facilitation of national initiatives (Greenstein 146). The end of each chapter is in style to include the president’s effectiveness in political skills, capacity to organize his staff and subjects, and public communication. Presidential term vision achievement, emotional intelligence and cognitive styles are not of minimal recognition. President sketch in thumbnail and the accompanying analysis conveys the prospective reader with vital and historical study of each president’s activity during the leadership terms. The most important tidbits that circle the main events of the impacts of future presidents character is captivities style of writing which greatly glues the reader's interest. Greenstein utilizes the style of political psychology to prove his theory, which argues that personal characteristics are of effect to the presidential core decisions and activities. The book analyses two distinct sections. One is the gap that results from the Fred Greenstein information and available fallacies due to the use of psychological implication in the effort to replace the available facts when in praise of a given president. Additional research is of need to cement the two differences. In case the writer has the need to improve the public perception of a given president, he employs a technique of majoring on the exemplary character of this president, which is eminent in President Difference book as in J. F. Kennedy and his brother Robert conversation about October missiles (Greenstein 46). To support some gaps, a reverse psychology is of utility to make the reader comfortable. President Difference books calms everyone on the Barrack Obama’s originality and history. The moment of satisfaction is of origin in having a graduate from Columbia who was also in Harvard Law as the president without consideration that the same president was a transfer student to Columbia. Most of the harsh implications need provision for reader’s integration. Some analysts have reflection of the lack of poverty in United States of America. According to this book, the American Indian poverty aims the federal government at the peril of State government. In this book, Greenstein briefly mentions Johnson’s antipoverty program for the high society. There was massive expenditure on this programme but Greenstein’s work has no analyses on the specific attempts on the examples of the mode of expenditure in the so-called ‘war on poverty' which never had a breakthrough. There is a high geographical bound on this case. Establishment of Indian community desk to alleviate poverty of American Indians faces diversification not only to Indian community but also to other communities below the poverty line (Greenstein 208). This has evidence in Oklahoma countries where Indian families face the threat of poverty. The mention of Gerald Ford brings a new picture to the memory of the reader. It is eminent that he was dodging the issue of the draft on Military involvement in Vietnam War. The subjects of this war lost some of their basic rights. In this book, Ford is having openness character, which counteracts the point. This person is famous of reaping recognition gains. The making of Warren commission he was to cover the governments mandate on J. F. Kennedy assassination. In his report, he hid behind the face of Christianity to conceal the real perpetuation behind the assassination. The documentaries provide great information that the states investigations. Fred Greenstein in this book points the flaws of certain presidents in a great mental way. Despite the use of this theory, a person’s moral principles and practices take lead with irrefutable facts and convictions. However, Ford was very successful in diverting the emotions of the society, his announcements fails the point. Disgraceful life is also on the adult life of those people in charge of fore sighting Vietnam War. Further objectors of the draft need rehabilitation to date. Clinton may pose loopholes in cheating his wife as per history in the book, but his budget presentations surpass the disadvantage. President George Herbert Bush has utility on Storm operation to subvert Harkens Scandal of energy on him (Greenstein 116). During his presidency, George W. Bush used other diversions on Wall Street to rob Americans in the 9/11 scandal. All these negativity can influence the weakening of either military or economy. Greenstein argues that despite the lack of monumental achievements in the presidency of George Herbert Walker Bush presidency, his approach on calamity was a true integrate of a free character. In this book, there is ascertain that the achievements of president George W. Bush in Texas was scot free from various check outs and had a procession to his presidency. This has lead to crash in economic developments leaving it in great turmoil at last that is a proof of calamity on character basis. Summation of George W. Bush by Greenstein is by a statement that his policies at last appear not to be facilitation by lack of emotional control but the concept in existence. There is also like certainty that failure to monitor characters like Madoff Bernie and Goldman institutions is the act of emotional uncontrollability (Greenstein 227). This places a high value on emotional stability on some presidential character, which is a role in this book. It is also evident that Greenstein utilizes the myth that people from a stable background and have the privilege to learn in the best schools are of good character, sound emotions, and poses better preparation for the national leadership. This leads to turning a blind eye on flaws thus overemphasis on emotional stability. In this book, emotional stability has a factor to success in comparison to moral character. There is also a promotion of men with moral flaws as long as they champion the stability of emotions. In conclusion, this book is necessary read one. It illustrates the American presidents’ face in a strategic way the current politics have never shown. It is under a good writer in perfect narration. It is very applicable for individuals who want to learn and those with the need to reflect political and leadership scenes at their time. In its thirteen chapters, there is a categorical criterion to enable the reader think deeply on the current leadership and creation of lay reading with political provocation all in the book, ‘The presidential difference.’ Works Cited Read More
