American History The early colonial settlers engaged mostly in farming although records show that they came from predominantly urban not rural background. The people who came to America in the early seventeenth century were from a variety of backgrounds but became part of the same meeting port once they arrived. The early colonists expressed equal interest in both elements of dual sovereignty in their lives, the royal and the local governments. In describing Massachusetts as a hideous desolate wilderness, Governor Bradford was accurately depicting the reality of colonial America.

The medical care in the colonies depended largely on the remedies the colonists learned from Indians. As a matter of health and taste, the colonists mostly disliked the foods the Indians ate.
