Mumbai Attacks Introduction Most serious attack in recent history of India is the terrorist attack on 26th November 2008 in Mumbai. A group of Pakistani terrorist conducted this attack. They were trained by Pakistan’s Army. Inter Service Intelligence of Pakistan supported this incident. It was a major attack. A series of attacks were done by the Pakistani terrorist group. They were 10 in numbers. The multiple attacks were lasted for 60hours. It resulted in death of 180 people including foreign people. The whole world was shocked that attack. India faced a serious impact for this. Terrorist attack in this country highlighted its security and crisis management problem. The main objective of the terrorist was to damage the image of the country and hamper its economic situation. Another important aim of those terrorists was to attract the attention of the world towards their demands and cause by injuring and killing many innocent people. The attacks happened in Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Leopold Café, Taj Mahal Hotel, Bomb blasts in taxis, Oberoi Trident and Nariman House. 1 Answer Bad International Intelligence had influences the success of Mumbai attack. India’s police and security system were often co ordinate poorly. They were not highly equipped or trained. Moreover the security system of the country was influenced by the political leaders and structure of India. Different legal and legislative bodies were involved to look after the security system India (Rath, 2010). Intelligence agencies, central investigative department, law enforcement, intelligence bureau, India police service, Central Reserve Force were all answerable to the Prime Minister. The military were also responsible to look after foreign threats and terrorist attacks. Too many government body involvements create an ineffective security management system. State and central authorities formed many joint committees and task force to handle crisis situations. But often the actions of these forces and committees become slow and complicated which creates major problems in International intelligence. The federal political system of India has such policies which posses’ problem in performing duties of intelligence units. For ineffective functions of this departments helped in the success of Mumbai attacks. There was a high possibility facing terrorist attack through sea route. Taj Hotel is a very prominent site which can be easily targeted. The intelligence department of India provided this information to the state government but the information was ignored by most of the bureaucratic. Maharashtra state police and coast guard were also unattainable regarding this. Anti Terrorism Squad of Maharashtra was also not bothered about this issue. When Mumbai police wanted to take preventive action to stop this attack then they faced problem of insufficient manpower. After occurrence of that attack security force of Mumbai did not had effective weapons and information etc. They took a long time to give response to that emergency situation. Even they were not aware the type of attack and number of people affected or was into such situations. All these were the major International Intelligence failure which contributed a lot in success of Mumbai attacks. 2 Answer Ordinary weapons were used in Mumbai attack. With this ordinary fire weapons they caused a massive destruction of different places of Mumbai and killed several people. The terrorist were highly trained by Pakistani army. With their strong skills 10 terrorist did a major attack on the state challenging its security system. Those terrorists made a strong plan in stacking different destinations of Mumbai. They did not use any major bombs or destruction weapons. But still those terrorist operated its attack successfully in most important places of Mumbai. The security system of the country so was weak that the police and the military could not even prevented the attack. The terrorist organized their planed in such a way that the security system of India failed in spite of getting assistance from government. Indian legal and security system was very complex which prevented the state to maintain strong security and its efficient system. Advanced training of those terrorist and weak security systems of the country helped them to implement their terrorist operations successfully (Rath, 2010). Their attack type was bombing and shooting. With their simple techniques they killed approximately 164 people. The numbers of death could have been more if the terrorist had used strong weapons and caused massive bomb blasts. India did not have effective system to handle such crisis. As a result large number of people died for inefficient security management system. 3 Answer Sudden terrorist attack in Mumbai had shaken the whole security system of India. A large number of people were affected in that incident. To save those people Indian security system taken various methods. After 60 hours of continuous fight the Indian security system were able to stop the terrorist attack and killed 9 of terrorist among 10. At the time of attack both the hotels was covered with Marine Commandos, National security and Rapid Command Force. All the media channels were informed about this attack and they were telecasting the news all the times. NSG Commandos took over Nariman House (Oh, Agrawal, and Rao, 2011). Excessive firings were going on in the downstairs of Nariman House. So the NSG commandos entered into Nariman House through roof top with the help of Navel helicopter. One the first day 9 hostages were rescued from there. In the next days the house was totally covered by NSG commandos. In the morning of that day the commando grouped saved outreach center of Jewish and Oberoi Trident Hotel. The commandos had the misconception that Towers and Taj Mahal were cleared from the terrorists. The soldiers started to remove the dead bodies from their and during that process they found out that still two terrorist were present their shooting many people over there. After a long fight Indian soldiers were able to kill those terrorist. NSG completed final operation of Taj hotel on 29th November. They concluded the attack by killing remaining three attackers. This commando team rescued 300 people from Taj Hotel, 250 from Oberoi and 60 people from Nariman House. The police also seized armed and explosive filled boat which was anchored in Mumbai Harbor at Mazgaon dock. NSG Commando Havaldar Gajender Singh Bisht played an important role in this operation. He saved many lives and fought for a long time confronting those terrorists. He dies after a long battle with them. 4 Answer Terrorist attack has also become a major problem in United States. Many people had dies in different types of terrorist attacks of which were happened in U.S. These attacks have hampered the economic and social structure of the country many times. These terrorist attacks create a major threat on people live. For this reason U.S had made its security system very strong. U.S can also face a similar attack like Mumbai. It has many popular places where there a huge number of people visit. So that places can be the target point for terrorist attacks. U.S should learn many things form this Mumbai attack. The country should take necessary preventive steps to manage such situations. It should make its security system more strong because weak security and management system resulted in the death of large number of people in India (Baweja, 2009). U.S should provide necessary training to its military troops and for tactically handling such situations. A forced should be ready to face and confront terrorist actions. Country should develop effective and efficient operational planning to save innocent people from terrorist attacks. Operational thought should be translated to police in such a way that they can help the National Army and military to respond quickly in such situations. The country should learn and develop effective strategies to deals and operate terrorist attacks. Real time intelligence and support improves the operations of the police force. U.S should be aware of terrorist actives of Pakistan and take preventive measures according to take. Mumbai attack shows international intelligence failure of India (Baweja, 2009). U.S should look after these issues very carefully. It should make its intelligence system very much effective so that it can predict and have ideas of future action of terrorist groups. In past U.S has faced serious attack from Pakistani terrorist. To deal with this type of issues U.S can make treaties with Pakistani Government for preventing terrorist attack. Conclusion Terrorist attack in Mumbai on 26th November 2008 resulted in several injuries and deaths of innocent people. The group of Pakistani terrorist was finally killed after several hours of fight. On that day terrorist attacked in many famous locations of Mumbai and created a very chaotic condition in the country. For weak security system of India the terrorists were able to create such a threatening result. Many foreigners were injured and died in this attack. By this incident Pakistani terrorist attracted the attention of the world towards their demands. There were many problems and issues associated with International intelligence which resulted in a failure of the country’s security system and crisis management. Too many legal and legislative bodies were responsible to look after this issue but for their lack of efficiency and effectiveness they could not take proper measures to prevent the attack. Police and military took actions after sometime when the attack was started. But that time they tried in their best possible way to save lives of people and kill those terrorists.
