Green revolution resulted into increased productivity of agricultural industry and consequent availability of adequate food. Production of adequate agricultural produce was imperious in maintaining food security for the growing population. In addition, hunger and lack of specific agricultural produce had besieged the international community and a revolution would be beneficial. It is commendable that green revolution resulted into maximum production of food that adequately feed the growing human population2.
Besides ensuring international food security, invention of new agricultural techniques during green revolution era resulted into reduced production costs. Consequently, farmers sold farm produce cheaply at the market, which was greatly beneficial to the lower economy. Moreover, green technique of growing many crops on the same piece of land resulted into environmental conservation and prevention of land inadequacy due to the growing population.
Main concerns about introduction of agricultural techniques by the green revolution was use of chemicals. International conservation agencies including world health organizations have raised concerns over the negative environmental effects of using fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides in growing crops. The chemicals causes pollution and erosion besides acting as biohazards when they drain into water sources. The aforementioned concerns greatly decreases success of agricultural revolution era. In addition, consumption of fossil fuel and water energy in production processes including irrigation contributes into environmental pollution.
