9th June Section Introduction My objective is to explore the politics of Pacific Northwest (PNW). This is based on the fact that I am interested in exploring the impact of civil rights movement on the PNW politics. As a strong believer of human rights and the rights of women to vote and participate in today politics, I choose this topic in order to get more skills related to rights of individuals. In the contemporary political arena, men have been over-represented an aspect that has made women to feel inferior politically thus making their plights not top reach the government at the end of the day. The region has a long history of political radicalism which means that general strike would be engaged thus combination of communes and socialist and thus an influence in the region. East of the Pacific Northwest, eastern Washington, eastern Oregon and Idaho are known for their low population in the Pacific Northwest and this make the region to have a low voting power. The highest population of the region is atheism for example many of those individuals who live in Washington and Oregon believe that there is no religion. This means that religion on Pacific Northwest has less political influence. Since there is no dominant denomination like evangelicals, Protestants, Catholics, Jews are under pacific religious traditions. The indigenous groups like the secularists among others works together with those in power to press on matters of economic, social, environment issues. Another popular game that is usually played by the British Columbia is hockey. Sports in Pacific Northwest are valued a lot since for healthier life many individuals during their free time engage in sports. Children and parents are involved in outdoor games during free time and the government goes even to an extent of sponsoring those who are seen as stars in the field of games. Hockey is a game that many individuals from Pacific Northwest like to be associated with since they play it in perfect manner leading to the country attaining a lot of medals. Section III Primary source One of the archives that hold primary information about civil rights movements and their impact on the PNW politics is the Center for Pacific Northwest Studies. Having been established by Western Washington University, the archive is located at Goltz-Murray Archives Building in 808 25th Street, Bellingham, Washington 98225. The repository code of the archive is wabecp. The Center for Pacific Northwest Studies was established in 1971 with an aim of enhancing the understanding of the region historical information especially among the university students, researchers as well as historians. The archive stores some of the major information that stretches from Northern California to Alaska as well as from Rockies to Pacific. However, the centre is more focused at maintaining collections from Olympic Peninsula, British Columbia, northwest interior Washington and Alaska. One of the primary collections that are found at the Center for Pacific Northwest Studies is the interview of Saundra Taylor in relation to the civil rights (Schwantes 14). During her interview she indicates her roles as an African American councilor. Other collection includes oral histories and audio tapes that records interviews from 1920 to 2000. Additional collections are the KVOS Channel 12 Film Records as well as the Webster Reports that includes Century 21 of 1962 and A case of Terror also of 1962 among others. The book then continues to give details of the events that took place from 1906 to 1920. These events are related to the right of women to vote. This book provide appropriate and adequate information that relates to voting right of American women. Century of Struggle: The Womans Rights Movement in the United States By Eleanor Flexner and Ellen Fitzpatrick Belknap Press This book provides adequate and useful information related to suffrage movement in relation to it role in American history. The book also provides information about the American future in the context of civil right movements. Based on the information that it provides, the book is useful for the history students as well as researchers in the fields of civil rights and politics. ODochartaigh, Niall. This book provides information on civil rights movements across in US and Britain among other countries. By indicating the political movements that took place between 1950 and 1980, the book allows the readers to have adequate and reliable information on the social movements in various countries. Additionally, the book indicates the various campaigns that were undertaken in the form of civil resistance and unrest by civilians. For readers to get reliable information on civil rights movement, it is recommendable that they read this book. Jorge M. On its part, this book reconceptualises these issues by adopting the multicultural perspective. The books is good source of political information since it covers subjects such as Minorities--Civil Rights, Self-Determination, Legitimacy Of Governments and Multiculturalism (ODochartaigh 23). As a result, the book has been significant in providing information to researchers as well as history students. Section V Article Manley, John (1994). The article by Manley provides information on the difference political opinion that is based on the differences between the densely populated urban areas and the less populated areas for example Alaska and British Columbia. Areas surrounding Puget Sound have been noted to have a long history of radicalism as far as history is concerned. Having been the first city to elect a woman for the seat of mayor in 1926, Seattle is a major city. The need for reforms by the civilians led to a general strike in 1919. The emergence of civil movements in Seattle started in 1950s and 1960s. The movement did not only involve the African Americans, but also the Japanese Americans, Chinese Americans, Latinos and Latinos among others. While some radical organization and workers union provided support to the civil movements, other acted as obstacles. Section V Conclusion From this assignment, I have learnt that when researching a topic, historians ensure that they are aware of the areas where they can get the primary source. In most cases, they are aimed at providing information that is true and resourceful in future. I have also leant that archives are appropriate places where historians get information that is related to their topic. It has also come to my notice that while researching on a particular topic, historians looks for other sources that covers the same topic.
