Thomas and Norman published a book known as Broken Branch that analyzed congress problems. The former speaker of the house Newt Gingrich was much interested in the book. This book is a serious step in strengthening the congress (Dean, Pp 25). Broken Branch critically examined the speaker Dennis Hastert and the house leader for conducting the house with little regard for order. The house was conducted through political advantage instead of being run by the rulebook. Gingrich loved the book despite its critical scrutiny of his fellow republicans.
Thomas and Norman agree that it is time to leave evenhandedness that is popular among many political journalists. The outcome will stimulate some leaders but make other become furious. Their conclusion is clear because they believe that the republican congress act like parliamentary system in British where the winner controls the system. However, they believe that polarized ideas and intense opposition is not workable through separation of powers since it is difficult for the majority to do their will.
The republican are loyal to the party than to the country. This makes the political system stumble during serious problems facing the country. USA is misusing its economic savings and putting itself in difficult situations through bad leadership (Frank, Pp 56). Currently the republicans have differences with Ronald’s GOP and with earlier strategies, the government believed in. The party turned to a rebellious outlier with extreme ideas that disrespectful. Republican Party has ideas that declare war on the government since they inherited social and economic social regimes.
Theses allegations are true because of the debt ceiling mess during the last summer. The party came up with an idea of putting the credit rating of USA in danger by playing with purposeful avoidance of the country’s debt. This was a planned strategy connected Eric Cantor one of the majority house leaders. During the year, 2010 republican elected 87 new members in and took all operations of the house. John Boehner who is the nominal leader of the party acknowledged that operations of the house would be successful by raising a debt ceiling (Hendrik, Pp 2).
Unlike the new members, he considered damaged that occurred in 1995 because of a shut down of operations in the federal government. The reason was to assure bill Clinton reelection in 1996 by not spending dispute with federal government. According to Thomas and Norman, Boehner suggested they had to deal with debt ceiling as adults. He acknowledged that both the party and federal government have obligations and responsibility in their part. Cantor opposed this suggestion and requested the party to conduct a vote on coming debt limit golden opportunity.
He urged the party to consider possible increase in debit limit that they will use as advantage to convince president Obama in cutting spending’s. The confrontation arrived soon and after weeks of anxiety senate republicans took actions. Their leader Mitch McConnel pointed that putting GOP in a situation of being blamed for the country’s default was a bad idea on political consequences. He acknowledged that having Obama blaming the party was a bad idea during election time (Kaiser, Pp 3).
They agreed on unsteady deal where president Obama agreed to make 38 billion dollars from cuts on current federal budget. The republicans decided to
