Live Clean Lives Grant Proposal Affiliation Live Clean Lives Grant Proposal Project The Live Clean Lives initiative seeks a grant to expand its campaign against diseases caused by poor hygiene. Its aim is to help the local community aware of the dangers of poor hygiene and provide them with soap, clean towels, and education pamphlets and so on. The objective is that by the end of the year, the number of visits to the clinic as a result of poor hygiene will reduce by half and that the deaths caused by diseases such as cholera and typhoid will decrease. The campaign is based on the latest research that shows that most people in Zimbabwe become sick because they are oblivious to the effects of poor hygiene. Statement of Need Zimbabwe has 45 million people. Out of these, two-thirds are determined to be at the risk of contracting gastrointestinal diseases because of poor hygiene (Pittet et al., 20111). The result of maintaining an ill health in these individuals is that most of them die from the diseases and those that survive live a miserable life because of the agony caused by the illness and the financial problem due to their absence from work as they recover. Moreover, children cannot go to school because they spend most of the time at school dispensaries and rushing to the toilet (Curtis et al., 2011). Program Description The Live Clean Lives Program will enable the people at risk of contracting diseases caused by poor hygiene to improve their health standards and, thus their quality of life. The program will involve massive sensitization of people in the areas concerning the risks they expose themselves to as a consequence of poor hygiene and also offer them what they need to maintain clean, healthy lives (Jayaraman et al., 2014). Sensitization will occur in all sectors of society, and even schools will be requested to squeeze in some time for the project team to show the community how to fight germs and the diseases that emanate from them. People will improve their economic condition because they will be at work most of the time. Also, students’ grades will improve because they will spend most of their time in class (Hayes, 2013). The Live Clean Lives Kit The Cleanser X Washing Liquid is a soap formulation that can be used in all areas and the family can use it in every field. For example, it can be used as hand wash soap, as a bathing soap, as a utensil washing soap, and for other purposes (Huis et al., 2012). The soap is in such a concentration that allows the family to use it for many applications, and it delivers amazing results in all these instances (Hayes, 2013). Moreover, the soap is provided together with two towels per household and a few containers to separate the soap from the different uses in the home, such as bathing, washing utensils and so on. Pamphlets that contain pictures are issued to enable even those with minimal reading skills to decipher what is being referred to in the photos (Lary et al., 2013). One of the benefits if releasing the soap and all the educative material is that people within the community start talking about the products and with such a discussion, they can remind one another of the importance of maintaining a high level of hygiene in the home and at work to prevent pathogens and the diseases that they cause (Dangour et al., 2013). Besides, teachers in schools in the region will be asked to remind their students regarding the importance of washing their hands before meals and after visiting the toilet (Rook, 2012). Goals and Objectives The goal of the Live Clean Lives Program is to allow the people within society who are at risk of contracting pathogens due to poor hygiene to learn how to prevent such outcomes. Studies have shown that many individuals in society fall ill because they do not know the basics of maintaining high hygiene standards in their lives (Brooks et al., 2013). Moreover, since many people have not gone to school in the region, they have little knowledge about germs and their effects and are likely to fall ill and even die from diseases such as typhus and cholera. The primary objectives include: 1. To provide a measurable reduction in the hospital visits and cases reported of typhoid, cholera and other diseases that result from poor hygiene and consumption of infected food and water. The objective is the locals will learn how to maintain high hygiene standards and reduce the harmful effects of the illnesses in the society. 2. Enabling the illiterate members of society to learn about the risk caused by germs that result from practicing low hygiene standards. 3. To provide members within the area with soaps, towels and other equipment that will enable them to practice good hygiene practices, so that in the future they purchase the products for themselves. 4. Helping children at school to concentrate on their studies by staying longer in school than when they are sick from diseases caused by germs such as typhus and cholera. Teachers should be asked to remind their students during lectures and mealtimes to wash their hand with soap and clean water to kill germs. She has extensive experience working with impoverished communities in sub-Saharan Africa, and she knows the culture of the people in this area well. Sue Donahue, Chief Project Accountant, holds a doctorate in accounting and auditing from the University of Pennsylvania. He worked with Price Waterhouse Coopers and knew how to account for every dollar given in the grant for the Live Clean Lives to succeed. John Dean, Public Relations Officer, holds a degree in public relations from the University of Tulsa. He has experience having worked with UNEP as its spokesperson for the Americas.
