The results that were obtained shows that there is achieving of measurable sleep when they are cared for in an ICU setting but the sleep is abnormal with reduction in the third and fourth stage as these are the stages of restorative sleep. From the study, the findings indicated that there is a wide variation in the perception in of patients and nurses without the consideration of the stress that is faced by patients who are in intensive care unit. The sampling size that was used in the study is that of 23 registered nurses. The patients that were involved in the study were then contacted after 1 or 2 days after they were transferred from the ICU and were asked to fill designed questionnaire. The result brought out that the nurses rated the items of being much stressful than it was to the patients. The items that were rated highly by the patients were being in pain, having tubes in the mouth or nose, being stuck with needles and not being able to sleep. Article 8: Perception of night-time sleep through surgical patients in intensive care unit The descriptive research that was conducted to determine night time sleep of patients that was hospitalized in extensive care is a very important aspect within the health or disease process. The method that was used involved administering questionnaires to 140 (Lotti, Anders, Pete, Ulla and Folke, 2008). The information that was obtained from the patients include nursing care that patients experience during the night, demographic data and the treatments that the patients undergo during the night. The data that was obtained indicate that surgical perception of the patients’ sleep in the ICU. This shows that it is inadequate. Perception that nurses have on patients’ sleep partially accords with the perception that is experienced in the latter stages. Sleep is crucial in maintaining good health but illness is a factor that affects sleep negatively affecting the physical and psychological well-being of an individual (Lotti, Anders, Pete, Ulla and Folke, 2008).
