The Importance of Well Trained Healthcare Professional - Admission/Application Essay Example

I suppose a lot of kids want to become like their parents when they are older. I was no exception. Both my parents are doctors and for as long as I can remember, I have wanted to become one myself. But whereas I have seen the dreams of the boys and girls around me change, mine never has, it has only grown stronger.I vividly remember an afternoon spent with my mother watching her work, as she was advising her patients, reassuring them, bringing them hope. I was six at that time, but that warm atmosphere of caring, of understanding and gentle admonition has remained with me down the years.

Having been born in the USA, but shifting back to Korea as an infant, my traditions have been deeply rooted in that country, where I was taught the value of selfless giving. But shifting back to the land of opportunities during my teens gave a touch of aspiration and ambition to my core values of service, and having my parents already in the medical field has been an added bonus.Added to this is the example set by my parents who have always gone out of their way to volunteer their skills in the service of the community.

Time and again I have seen both of them offering their services for the very young, the very old and the under-privileged. I have seen the happiness they have found through these experiences, and have longed to step into their shoes. I have often wished it was me who had rendered the service, and was at the receiving end of the gratitude and even love I have seen in the eyes of their patients. My parents have been always professional in their work, but I think what I really appreciated was the human touch.

High school was small and private, where life sciences and biology had the greatest fascination for me. My teachers emphasized on the marvellous aspects of the natural world, the astounding involuntary functions the human body performs, and the frightening number of things that can go wrong with it. The very complexity of the number of actions involved in the single beating of a heart overwhelmed me, and I thirsted for more knowledge about the human body. Medical science again seemed like the most natural choice.

Having recently graduated from Case Western University in Ohio, my immediate goal is to try and become a doctor. I do realize that the road to the medical profession is long and hard, but I am convinced this is the only way ahead for me. When I think of Korean Americans like Howard Choi, a spinal cord injury specialist, and renowned professors in the medicinal field like Jim Yong Kim and Howard Koh, I am further inspired to take up this profession.There is a great demand for well-trained healthcare professionals, especially doctors, in the USA today, and a lot of people in this field have done very well for themselves and the society at large.

Given the opportunity to be educated from this renowned medical school, I am sure I would put in my efforts to the very last ounce in pursuit of this profession.
