To be of good health, one has to observe several important principles and understand the importance of good health and the recipes for healthy living (Alters, Sandra, and Wendy 23). This paper will discuss the various ways of maintaining good health, which are healthy eating habits, physical exercise, spirituality, hygiene, personal choices, mutual support, and brain activity. Hygiene Good hygiene refers to the usual procedures or routines that are fundamental in the maintaining of good health and help avoid the transmission of diseases. Medical hygiene requires one to keep the environment clean, use sterilized equipment, ensure that they wash their hands before every meal. Advisably also, individuals should wash their hands after they visit a toilet, and finally, drink treated water. Other ways through which one can practice good hygiene is by brushing their teeth at least twice a day, when one wakes up and before they go to bed. An individual can also choose to brush their teeth after every meal. Amassments of chunks of food in the mouth can result to mouth odor and dental infections. The use of normal toothbrushes may not remove these particles that remain embedded in between the teeth. The brushes with zigzag bristles however, effectively reach all the cubbyholes and cavities of the teeth. The use of tongue scrapers and mouth wash help in keeping the mouth and tongue clean and fresh. It is essential to keep bad smell away by drinking a lot of water, which also moisturizes the mouth. Keeping short nails makes it easy to clean them. This means that one must ensure that they do not let their nails grow too much or be filled with dirt. Cutting them often guarantees healthy living. Attributable to the hustles and bustles of the day, one is bound to sweat. A person is supposed to take a nice shower once or even twice a day using anti-bacterial soaps. A towel is a personal effect so it should not be shared. Once an individual had dried their body, he or she should use moisturizers to maintain a supple oily skin. Many people clean their bodies and neglect the hair so if gets dirtier by the day. If a person must keep long hair, they should consider visiting a specialist to clean it often (Dingwall & Lindsay 133). Nutrition For assurance of good health, he or she must observe the food hygiene policies. Food hygiene refers to the conservation and preparation of foods in such a way that certifies the food security and buttoned up for human consumption. This means that food should be stored in favorable conditions and in clean environments (Active Living Partners 23). Individuals should wash their hands before they handle food, and serve the food in clean dishes. Foods like meat should be cooked well to prevent diseases resulting from under cooked food. Nutrients are classified into five categories, which are: Proteins Vitamins Fats Carbohydrates Mineral salts Web. 28 March 2013, from, These nutrients are further categorized into two: i. Micronutrients- they comprise of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and water. They are called the micronutrients because they are required by the body in large portions. ii. Micronutrients- they include vitamins and mineral salts should be consumed in small portions (Whitney, Eleanor, and Sharon 66). Web. 28 March 2013, Physical Exercise Every human being should exercise his or her body frequently. Physical fitness and exercise advances and improves the immune system and aids in the prevention of diseases like obesity, diabetes, and heart diseases. Exercising also recuperates the mental ability and assists cub the issue of depression. Ones self-esteem and sex appeal (image) can be boosted and maintained through workouts (Infinite Ideas 55). Obesity in children is one of the most rampant diseases, raising concerns around the globe. Physical exercise for such children assists in reducing the effects of the disease. Ways through which an individual can exercise vary from swimming, walking, running, hiking and cycling. Other ways include weight lifts in the gym and dashing. Exercise helps people with insomnia sleep well. However, an individual should not over exercise because it can be calamitous. As a result of much exercise without the appropriate rest, an individual can develop heart abnormalities or even stroke. On the other hand, when one stops the excessive training abruptly or unexpectedly, feelings of depression and withdrawal can be experienced. For women, excessive exercise can halt the menstrual flow, a condition termed as amenorrhea. One should ensure they maintain a balanced diet after exercising to help the body compensate, from the difficult arduous exercise (WHO 70). Brain Activity Ensuring that one's brain is super active keeps diseases at bay. Everyone is supposed to put his or her brain to work in order to attain some set goals and objectives. Some cases of depression are caused by people being idle and thinking of their misery and frustrations oftentimes. Even if individuals are jobless, it is unhealthy to sit and sulk about it. Such individuals can join voluntary groups or organizations and that way they exercise their mind. Personal Choices The choices everyone makes each day have an effect on our well-being. One should make choices that benefit him and his ecosystem. If it is in terms of jobs, an individual should join an organization that aligns with his personal ambitions. Doing what one does not have passion for, has its challenges like stress at workplaces, and demotions because of low output. This is applicable even when a person is choosing a marriage partner, and when deciding the educational course to pursue. One should make choices that affect his or her health positively. Mutual Support Every human being needs love from family and friends alike. It is healthy to maintain constructive and positive relationships. Receiving and reciprocating love and support from the people around you is essential (Palmer, Ann, and Stephen 35) Web. 28 March 2013, Conclusion In summation, good health is very vital. One must put effort in ensuring that they remain healthy at all times through observing and following healthier eating habits, frequently engaging themselves in physical exercise, furnishing their spirituality, being keen on hygiene, making positive personal choices, getting mutual support from family and friends, and brain activity. This way, one is ensured of a healthy body and long life. Works Cited Active Living Partners. First Steps: Your Healthy Living Journal. Champaign, Ill: Human Kinetics, 2006. Print.
