Antioxidant superstar: That is what ruby-red pomegranates are, Protects memory Memory varies from one person to another depending on a number of things, for instance age and health. Normal human beings are supposed to capture information from the outside world, store them and they should eventually be able to retrieve the information whenever it is needed. However there are some cases of forgetfulness where does not seem to remember what their brains had received. This study examined the effects of pomegranate on ones memory.

There were 20 people to be experimented on, 15 being male and 5 female. In the pre-test, the subjects were given a list of 10 vegetables to name in order. They were then given pomegranate juice and waited for 30 minutes before the post-test was conducted. After consuming the pomegranate juice, they were again told to name the vegetables in the list in the same order as they did in the pre-test. Introduction Pomegranate is a red to brownish colored fruit with the shape of an orange. It is well known for its medicinal purposes.

The pomegranate is used in making wines and juices and also comes in handy during cooking and baking. Studies have shown that the pomegranate is very useful in the human body in various ways and its frequent consumption leads to a healthy life. The fruit protects the heart in various ways, prevents cancer, whitens teeth, helps in weight loss, increases energy levels, aids in liver problems among others. However, pomegranate is majorly used to deal with the matters of the brain. The fruit is functional to people with weak memory as it helps in rejuvenating and restoring memory (Newman et al 2011).

There are various diseases that ring about memory losses apart from the obvious natural causes like age. Various studies prove that pomegranate contains antioxidants that get rid of free radical that tend to temper with the functioning of the brain cells and therefore improving the memory functioning of the brain. The pomegranate also helps infants born premature with under developed lungs which results to poor circulation of blood to the brain. This causes the brain not to function well due to lack of oxygen.

In addition to this, intake of the pomegranate fruit or juice protects the brain from Alzheimer’s disease, a dangerous one and has no cure. The pomegranate protects against oxidative stress which makes the brain matter to shrink (Newman et al 2011). A healthy brain is something that most people value and would like to be able to remember everything without failure. There are a number of studies undertaken to find out which foods can improve the functioning of the brain and the pomegranate proves to be the most successful among the rest and shows the best results.

It also has no disadvantage or side effects and ensures the healthy growth of one’s brain. This study involves 20 random people whose memory is to be tested by having the name a list of vegetables in order before and after taking the pomegranate juice. The amount of content the subjects will remember will be noted and thereafter, be compared. Method 20 people were enlisted for this exercise. 15 of them were male and the rest were female. There ages ranged from 19 to 57 and they were from different ethnic communities, which are 15 Whites, 4 Hispanics and 1 Asian.

They all had no health conditions, complications, allergies, diseases or viruses. They were all given a list of 10 vegetables to name according to how they were listed. The number of vegetables they said right was recorded for each one of them. Thereafter, they were given the same amount of pomegranate juice to take and waited for 30 minutes before the next exercise was done. In the post-test, the subjects were given the same list of vegetables to name in order again and the results were also recorded just like in the previous case.

The data collected from the experiment was assessed based on how well they did in the pre-test and in the post-test. They compared so as to see if there was any effect brought about by the consumption of the pomegranate juice by the subjects. Results The results of the pre-test and the post-test are out of 10. Gender/Age Ethnicity Pre-test Post-test Male 26 White 8 10 Female 24 White 7 10 Female 22 White 4 9 Female 21 Hispanic 7 9 Male 28 White 5 10 Male 25 White 6 9 Female 47 Hispanic 4 8 Male 57 Hispanic 5 8 Female 32 White 3 7 Male 29 White 5 9 Male 26 White 3 7 Male 19 White 2 6 Male 25 White 3 8 Male 30 White 4 9 Male 26 Hispanic 5 7 Male 34 White 3 9 Male 26 Asian 5 10 Male 38 White 4 9 Male 35 White 2 8 Male 23 White 4 10 In the pre-test, most of them barely remembered half of the vegetable in the list.

That was regardless of the age of the subject or the ethnicity. Therefore it is clearly noted that the memory of the subjects improved tremendously at all times after taking the pomegranate juice. Conclusion Pomegranate juice should be a part of anyone’s diet, especially if he wants to improve his memory. Researchers have proven that by consuming a pomegranate juice, one can gain close to 400 MB of memory. The experiment has also shown that the fruit works wonders, considering how much the memory of the subjects improved after taking the pomegranate juice.

Some scientific studies even say that the pomegranate fruit might at some extent reduce the need for medicines as it provides prevention and cure for many disease and health conditions, while other communities consider it as a gift from God (Newman, et al 2011).
