of exercise on the depression, anxiety and other mood states (Byrne & Byrne, 1993), they claimed that such ailments had mood enhancing effects of exercise programs. This research has been stretched further as through the studies researchers and practitioners have suggested that not only clinical and but nonclinical subjects may also benefit acutely from a single bout (Blumental, Emery, Madden, George, Reasoner, & Williams, 1989)The above stated researchers had analysed the influence of exercise in generic sense, some more peer-reviewed publications , specifically to understand if similar influence was observed with aerobic exercises also.
A pilot study was conducted on patients (suffering from major depressive disorders) while they were subjected to aerobic exercises, the findings of the study indicated that aerobic exercises produced substantial improvement in mood in patients with major depressive disorders in a short time (Dimeo, Bauer, Varahram, Proest, & Halter, 2001). The research query about understanding the reason that how does aerobic exercises influence mood of an individual is explained by the research that was carried out by the group of American researchers (Blumental, Emery, Madden, George, Reasoner, & Williams, 1989), they compared the changes those were induced in the two groups of men and women, one group of men and women were aerobics and the other group was made to do Yoga or Flexibility exercises.
The psychological parameters like measures of mood, psychiatric symptoms neuro-psychological functions including peak oxygen measurement and anaerobic threshold were measured. The exercises were performed over a period of 4 months and it was noted that the group who did aerobic exercises displayed 11.6% improvement in peak oxygen consumption, and 13%. Hence it was deduced that the group of men and women who did aerobic exercises perceived themselves as improving on a number of psychological and behavioral dimensions. Other research groups have also claimed that aerobics facilitates production of endorphins.
