China I grew up in a humble background in a small village in Tonghua Jilin. During my delivery, my mother experienced so much pain because there was no anesthesia to help her relieve the pain. In my village, the infrastructure was poor, and my mother could not access the hospital. My old grandmother acted as the midwife. I was born on 1st November, 2002 under bad conditions and my mother gave me the name Aisha. My parents ensured that my name had a meaning because people would identify me with that name for the rest of my life. My mothers name, which is Nan, did have a concrete meaning as she always wished for; hence, she ensured that she gave me a name, which had a meaning. My father’s name is Hsin Ta, and he was always happy to be associated with his name. My father was rooted in our religion, and he ensured that he prayed for my mother, especially when she had complications during pregnancy. The survival of my mother and I made my father believe god was on our side, and that is why they gave me the name Aisha (Mulets 2). As I grow up, I came to learn that the house I grew up in has been in existence from one generation to another. It is the house where my mother was brought up in. I learned to be contented with what we had. The house was tiny with a few bedrooms which could only accommodate our family. Our house occupied the last position on our street. As I grew up, I shared a room with my big sister. She is a peaceable person, hence no quarrels arose between us. She made sure that we lived in peace with my brothers and acted as a mediator when fights arose between us. Her name clearly gives a representation of her peaceable character. Today being my birthday, I looked back over the past last year and much has changed. After I was born, my mother discovered that she was pregnant. My parents wanted to have a big family although they were not financially stable. However, our parents ensured that they did all what they could to support us. When we learned that we would have a newborn in our family, we were all excited. Unfortunately, my mother and the baby in the womb did not survive. My sibling died of HIV/ AIDs with my mother. It was a tough experience that happened to me in my life. My mother’s death made life tougher. My father had to take up two tasks, working to provide for his family and taking care of us. Before, my mother had the role of taking cares about us while my father was the bread winner. It was a difficult task for my father to take care of us. As a result, my grandmother moved in with us to rescue my father. Through, my grandmother’s help my father’s life was made much easier. Our lives were also made easier. My grandmother gave full attention to us. He carried out all the roles my mother did. Thus, my father had time to look for finances to feed the large family. I clearly remember my first day in school in school. I grew up knowing that my grandmother was my mother because she performed all the roles my mother did. In my first day at school, my grandmother accompanied me. My first day in school made me realize that there is something that I missed in my life. My fellow siblings had a chance to be accompanied by my mother, but my case was different. My grandmother accompanied me to school. I walked into a class and was surrounded by many strange faces. The school’s atmosphere was different, and I felt that I was truly in a new place. I had an opportunity to mingle and relate to my new friends (Young &Feenie 3). My life moved from one step to another. When I turned six years old, I had to learn some of the house chores such as fetching water. We fetched water in a river which was far from our village. We had to walk for long distances to get access to the river. My father became ill, so we had to learn how to perform some of the most important activities at a tender age. Sometimes my life became unbearable, but I had to work harder to fulfill my dreams in life (Mosel 23). Some of the chores such as fetching water were difficult, but they had to be performed because we needed water in all the activities we performed. I was lucky because I had a sister who we walked together the entire journey. We played on our way to help us get a positive impression that we were near the stream. At the age of ten, I had a defined routine. I performed the daily chores am supposed to perform and reported to the school. School started at 8.00 am and ended at 4.00 pm. The routine kept me going and I would make sure that I attended all the classes. In the classes, each person had their own locker where they would keep all their items. The school’s curriculum guided me in all the activities. We learned different subjects, and we would use one book for all the subjects. My favorite subject was English. I learned how to read and write and was among the best students in my class. Once I got home from school, I ensured that I did all my homework. I then helped my grandmother in preparing the dinner. It was the best experience I ever longed for. Through preparing the dinner, I learned how various dishes were prepared. During that period, I also got close to my grandmother. She told me different stories and ensured that I enjoyed any moment I spent with her. I had that routine every weekday. However, on Saturday and Sunday my routine changed. Saturday was a day I enjoyed playing with my friend, and I cleaned my uniform. Sunday was a family day, and we attended the church service. Everyone looked forward to this day Sunday. It was a family day where we had fun together. During Sundays, we would go to church and at that time I made more friends. However, I made more friends in school than in the church. School was the best place to make friends because most of the children who learned from that school came around the village. At school, I met my husband who we would spend the rest of our lives together. My best experience was to meet the love of my life. At ten years old I had already identified AasimAnuli as my life partner. They had moved to our village and as soon as I saw him my heart beat for him. I knew that, that was the best man to spend my life with. Aasim was the perfect man for my life. His name meant responsible and handsome man. He had all it takes to become a perfect husband. I could not even live without him. His arrival brought peace and joy to my life. Aasim and my elder sister had one thing in common. They all loved staying in peace. Aasim ensured that everywhere that he went they had peace. I made him feel welcomed at our school and took him round to see some of the things we had learned over time. The bond between us grew day by day (Lattimore 14). As time went by, I came to understand that Aasim liked me. I was quite a shy person and when he approached me, I was in total confusion. I loved him, but I did not know that everything would move so fast. Aasim approaching me was like a big surprise. I did not know what really attracted us to each other. He confessed that he had loved me from the day he reported in our institution. After two years, he proposed when I was 16 years. He made the proposal so beautiful. Breaking the news to our parents was not an easy task. We had to ensure that we approached the two parents with the confidence required. To my father, Aasim was the best man for me. However, my sister was worried about me. However, I assured her that Aasim would be the best husband for me. After the proposal, we stayed for a few months, then I got married in a beautiful ceremony. The day of the wedding was one among the best days of my life. Aasim and I moved to another house to start life together. I had to abandon my studies because marriage called for a lot of time. I continued working and would get enough money to support my family. During weekdays, I would involve myself in the job. However, during Sunday and Saturday I got an opportunity to catch up with my friends. After getting married, my village expected a lot from me. Children are a blessing, but people in the village believed that one was supposed to give birth immediately after marriage. They all looked up to me to ensure that generations in our society continued. Children were an important asset in the society because they provided labor in the house. Additionally, the community believed that children would facilitate movement from one generation to another. After few months of marriage, I gave birth to my first child. In our village, around 75 percent of the population gets pregnant at an age under 18 years of age. I followed my mother’s traditions and chose a good name for my child. I named my child Aisha because it meant lucky and fortune. My daughter was beautiful and was completely treasured by the members of my family. After two years, I gave birth to my second born. I named him Kyle. When I got ill, I received support from family members and they were willing to walk with me the entire journey. Doctors and nurses tried their best, but they did not save her life.
