Despite the rejection of the bill, US President George W. Bush was re-elected for a second term, he has decided to continue the campaign against same-sex marriage. According to his adviser Karl Rove in an interview with FOX News channel, the US administration will seek a constitutional amendment enshrining the definition of marriage as the union of a man and a woman. According to Rove, this issue must be addressed at the federal level. At the same time adviser to Bush said that the US administration is ready to leave for the consideration of the proposal to allow states civil same-sex marriages and recognize certain rights of gay spouses. In particular, Rove mentioned the right to inherit property and the right to property.

Attempts to consolidate the federal norm, according to which a marriage can be recognized only between heterosexual couples, are continuing. In July 2006, the lower house of parliament rejected the US amendment to the constitution, which was supposed to solve this problem. For the bill, which has lobbied the Republican Party, voted 236 deputies out of 435. Although the number of those who supported the bill, and the majority was for a constitutional majority, whose support is needed in this case, did not have 47 votes. It should be noted that in the years 2005-2006. Republicans have repeatedly tried to achieve the adoption of this amendment in Congress. Once again, this bill was rejected by the Senate in June 2006.

It should be noted that the defenders of same-sex marriage are of the opinion that marriage and its benefits should be recognized in relation to same-sex couples and that the refusal of them in this infringes on one or more of their rights as American citizens. Those who criticize same-sex marriage, usually of the opinion that marriage should be defined only as a union between a man and a woman (so-called 'traditional marriage'), and that there are no rights that led to some staff recognizing any relationship that contradicts this definition. The ratio of homosexual marriage (gay marriage) of the US population is ambiguous. A more favorable to it are citizens, young people and non-religious, members of the Democratic Party, the people of the West Coast, the Great Lakes, and New England (New England is the name of the historically developed district in the northeastern part of the United States, which includes the states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island.)
