The study of Weber (2009) aims to highlight the characteristics of international politics, especially in relation to the international relation theory. The issue under discussion, i.e. the international relations between the west and the Middle East as influenced by 9/11, is considered as being part of the above study’s theme. At this point, the use of the study of Weber (2009) can be justified. However, the content of the above study should be also examined, aiming to show that the information provided can be valuable for exploring the issue under discussion. The study of Weber (2009) presents a wide range of theoretical models that can be used for explaining the forms of international relations worldwide; reference is made for example to the concepts/ theories of realism, idealism, and neo-Marxism and their role and effects in international relations. These theories could be also used in order to explain the status and the form of international relations between the west and the Middle East as a consequence of 9/11. In other words, the study of Weber (2009) can provide the theoretical framework on which the analysis of the issue under discussion – as explained above – will be based. Therefore, in terms of its content also, the study of Weber (2009) is also considered valuable for examining the various aspects of the subject described above.
A similar approach should be used for evaluating the study of Shimko (2009). The specific study focuses on different aspects of international relations. Reference is made primarily to the historical development of international relations – through key periods that characterized international relations, like the Age of Revolutions (1789 up to 1914) and the Cold War (from 1945 up to 1989); by examining the characteristics and the events of the above periods it will be possible to develop credible assumptions on the post – September 11th period. Furthermore, the above study presents a series of controversies developed in the context of international relations – particular attention should be paid to war and democracy and international terrorism as analyzed in the above study. It is made clear that the information that the above study provides in regard to the issues under discussion - international relations between the west and the Middle East after 9/11 - is quite valuable. As for the aim of the above study, this seems to be fully aligned with the subject under evaluation: in accordance with Shimko (2009) his study aims to show the causes and the effects of certain events in the context of international relations – reference is also made to the events of the September the 11th. Therefore, the specific study could be used for highlighting all aspects of the causes and the consequences of September the 11th – including its effects on international relations between the west and the Middle East.
Finally, both the above studies have been developed in accordance with the common standards of academic research: they are appropriately and adequately referenced and their findings are appropriately tested and justified. For this reason, the above two studies are considered as quite appropriate – in terms of structure, content, and credibility – for identifying and explaining the various aspects of the subject under discussion – i.e. the effects of September the 11th on the international relations between the west and the Middle East.
