Running head: PERSONAL STATEMENT FOR THE COURSE MSC ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE Name Course Institution May 23, 2011 PERSONAL STATEMENT FOR THE COURSE MSC ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE Accounting and finance is subject that in many occasion has been liken to art. It bear the same characteristic with art in sense that someone have to analyse every aspect of it before making a fair and just decision. A good financial management begins with personal financial budget and record keeping. When things are seen from that perspective someone will be able to tell how much he or she worth and where his or her money is going. Indeed, anyone with slightest interest in making more efficient use of his or her money can benefit from a well design budget. With such a visual aid one will be able to have accurate picture of healthy and well guided for the future. For someone to be able to calculate net worth he or she must make a list of everything he currently have from cash in hand and in bank to item such as books and clothing people would not normally not consider as asset of great value. It is also wise for someone to be aware of the market value of the asset he or she own. It is not difficult to add up cash portion. Someone will be able to get source document either from bank or insurance in order to compute total of spending and income. If the large portion of expenses is in cash, then some one should be keep a dairy or records book to facilitate the process. It is a good idea to save and mark you cash receive as well. Once someone has added up his or her expenses then they must make sure their totals reflect an annual pattern. The have above accounting and finance reflection is what captures my interest in pursuing a degree course in the university. Accounting and finance seem to be a backbone every success to both individual and organization. Throughout my entire study from primary level I have been having interest in arts. My teacher’s sentiments that once someone is good at art, he or she will also be good at accounts and finance seem to holds. At that time it was not easy for me to understand his argument, but after spending three years doing my GCSE Art and later pursues accounting at A level is when his sentiment starts to make sense to me. The logic, method and set order is shared between art and accounting and finance. Someone is required to have analytical skills to put in place each piece of information carefully that have high significant in the environment. Both fields require analytical skills that enable someone to take part every piece of information and use to make him or her decisions. I manage to excel in the both exams and I can now proudly accept that I have skills that can lead me to the university. My interest in doing accounting started way back in primary level of my studies and I would to do at the university. I have a passion to either do accounting and finance or business accounting at the university. The two subjects seem to have interrelated concept and that has made me to have a deep understanding on the two subjects. The concept and method I learn on studying math and business has also boost my interest and understanding of logic and terms in the accounting and finance. The flexibility that I have acquired in studying art, maths and business concept will help me achieve high result possible. I believe I have a strong ability to pick up knowledge and skills quickly and acquainted well to conduct my own study and research independently. During my college level I taught myself various chapters in business mathematics which was not within the syllabus and this gave me an advantage a head of other students. Finance Advisor or accountant is my main ambition in future. I hope the university will give me a better understanding of the business world and will offer me a wide range choices and connection once I complete my course. I have participated in the leadership activities in many occasion and I became a mathematic teacher at some point. I also actively participated in school project where I taught students the basic of mathematics. Together with my classmates we became helpful to our tutors during exam preparation. I enjoyed teaching mathematics and appraising young student to perform well in their studies. I therefore, make teaching to be my third choice career in future. I have a passion in arts and I spend much of my time in during my free time. I often make a visit to art galleries to study art in dept. Surrealism and symbolism is my favourite type of art. I also have a lot interest in Escher and Dali pieces of work due to ‘double possibility’ characteristic. It is only recently that I started to develop a keen interest in contemporary arts. For the last one year I have been doing painting on canvas for commission to my family and friends who have been much please with my work. During most of my weekend I take up my part job as sale associate at Birmingham, Bullring and Sketcher USA companies. I have work with Sketcher for the past one year since they open a new store in Birmingham. I have seen the store grow from the time it started operating and I am only one of the two original staff left. I now have a good knowledge on running a successful store. I have been able to offer the highest level quality of customer care service. I have a passion in dealing with customers not just on their wants but on their satisfaction beyond their expectation of the service delivery. I have learnt to be committed, adaptable and reliable to the customer at all times. Business world has become more dynamic and every time a new way of doing must be adopted to remain a head of the competitor. The time I have spend with Sketcher store have taught me to be more patience and tolerable with others. With all this exposure I believe I have an advantage compared to others to pursue a degree course in accounting and finance in the university. An important attribute for my accounting and finance career is the awareness of ethics, social responsibility and cultural diversity. As senior manager or accountant, I will meet people with diverse views in social and cultural spheres of life. It is therefore important to be aware of ethical, social and cultural issues surrounding a particular category of people. Managers make independent ethical decisions on a day-to –day basis though they also require viewpoints of a larger team of decision makers in the accounting and finance sector or department. It is manager social responsibility to ensure that clients get the right kind of goods and services. This attribute is very important in my accounting and finance career since am aware that I will be responsible and accountable for people’s performance. Roy and Jones (2007 p323) adds that managers have a professionally social responsibility to improve performance through the use of current knowledge and understanding how the environment and the many changes occurring in it impact organization. Another important attribute for my ambitions to be come a manager to commitment to independent and lifelong learning. This attribute is also related to enhancing information and communication technology since both require continued training and education so as to remain independent in a changing world. As a manager my independence attribute is required where I have to make rational decisions regarding work relation, especially concerning the clients. It is important that I commit my self to lifelong learning so as I gain the relevant knowledge and skills required making independent decisions. On the other hand it is important to listen to the views and opinions of others but remain independent. I believe university is the next step after thoroughly enjoying my college and experience I acquired in the Sketcher stores. The time I spend in college and in Sketcher store have completely change my personality and I now believe that i am a better person to take up new challenges in the university. The exposure has given me a great sense of success and independence in mind. I have great feelings that college has made me grow and it has introduce me to a wide range of people. I have been able to a have extensive interaction with many people of all kind and that has given me a good privilege listening and taking other people opinion. I appreciate the way other people do things including their culture and belief. I also believe that I am now much more open-minded person. I hope that you have analysed this piece carefully enough to offer me a place at your university, and trust that you have yet to see the bigger picture of me. References: Peterson's, (2009).
