Critical review
Sustainable technology is solely meant to help communities in maintaining a common goal of improving the environment by developing sustainable energy solutions. In that, sustainable energy solutions play a vital role in ensuring that there is clean energy. Additionally, it ensures that the needsof the present are met without comprising the ability of futuregenerations. Various technologies promote sustainable energy that include renewable energy sources such as, solar energy, hydroelectricity, wave power, wind energy, geothermal energy, as well as technologies designed to improve energy efficiency among others. The authors of the articles analyze various divisions of energy where they have made clear that although there are some pitfalls in sustainable energy, it is the best option to avoid the issues of global warming in the world.
The main issues addressed by the author in the articles are first on sustainable energy, which has been held to be paramount in ensuring that communities have clean energy. Additionally, through sustainable technologies energy is used efficiently in the sense that, the production of renewable energy is not easy compared to the production of non-renewable energy. Therefore, having this knowledge people will use the energy efficiently for their benefit and that of others (Elliot, 1997). Anexample, which isprovided, is on the poorly insulated houses and domestic appliances that in most cases waste a lot of energy.
The second issue that is addressed in the article is on Myths, pitfalls and oversights on sustainable energy where it is believed that renewable energy is expensive. In that, when it comes to the installation of equipment’s needed to ensure that renewable energy is provided in the community. For example, it has been established that in order to ensure that there is sufficient wind turbines an area a vast piece of land is required. Additionally, the cost of wind turbines is about $ 2 million in relation to buying and installation. The pitfalls that are found in the renewable energy are lack of proper policies to govern the issues related to renewable energy. In the sense that, although governments have tried to incorporate some policies in the community they havebeen rejected mainly because they infringe on the environmental rights of the people living in the communities.
Thirdly, the other major issue or significant issueaddressed inthe article is on renewable electricity. This has been brought about by the need for cleanenergy, as previous electricity energy was produced using fossil fuels that have caused great detrimental environmental impacts. In Canada, the government has provided policies that will help in the promotion of renewable electricity in the effort of decreasing the environmental impacts caused by energy produced using fossil fuels.
The three articles have the same the same conclusion where they all advocate for clean and sustainable energy. Therefore, the authors agree that green energy is the way to go internationally to ensure that the world has clean and safe energy. However, the only problem in achieving this goal and objective is lack of clear and precise guidelines that will address the issue of sustainable energy. For example, in Canada the level of human pollution has been indicated to be on the highest level. Additionally, the myths and pitfall surrounding the renewable energy has been a major issue. Because governments have failed to fulfill their obligations on cleaning up energy as they believe that renewable energy is expensive, and the government does not have the money to sustain the technologies brought about by green energy.
The argument created by David on sustainable technology has been strengthened by the arguments of Karl and Ian (Rowlands, 1997). In the sense that, they agree with him that sustainable technology should be adopted to reduce the environmental impacts associated with non-renewable energy. Therefore, the integration of the claims in the three articles have advanced my understanding on the issues related to renewable energy, as well as, the environmental impacts of non-renewable energy. Additionally, it is clear that human pollution has been on the increasing creating a major threat to the environment and on animals that depend on nature to feed.
The strengths in the articles are that they critically evaluate renewable energy in the EU members establishing the advantages and disadvantages of renewable energy. In addition, the articlesgive insights on the issues relating to renewable energy, especially on matter pertaining to the effective cost of installing the required gadgets to ensure that there is adequate renewable energy. This is because the use of fossil fuels have influenced negatively on the environment and on the health of the people (Mallon, 1997).For example, the emission of fossil fuels on the environment has contributed the high numbers of people suffering from respiratory diseases in the United Kingdom. For that reason, the articles have provided the relevant solutions to the problems that have been because of the use of fossil fuels as a source of energy.
The weaknesses that are evident in the articles are that all the authors although using a different platform in discussing their issues they have concluded the same thing. For example, in the sustainable technologythe author has emphasized on the use of renewable energy. Secondly, on the myths, pitfalls and oversights article the authors has indicated the myths and problems that are being faced by the users of renewable energy, as well as, those who want to implement it in their countries. Lastly, renewable electricity is an article that encourages the use of renewable energy. Therefore, at the end of the reading the conclusion is the same that there is need to encourage people on the use of renewable energy. The articles criticizes the reluctance of the government on providing renewable energy, which is clearly seen that it is not an easy task, especially because of the expenses required in maintaining and acquiring land and the needed equipment to set up renewable energy.
The three articles seem to have the same argument although the article on Myths, Pitfalls and oversights tend to have a stronger argument. In the sense that, it indicates the major issues that are faced by proponents of renewable energy. This is because there is negative energy when it comes to renewable energy even from the government. Therefore, although the article is in agreement with the other two it is strong because it looks at the major issues affecting the renewable energy sector. The weakness presented by the article is that it does not address how to come up with ways to convince the public to accept renewable energy and sustainable technology.
In conclusion, the use of sustainable technology to provide future and present energy for the communities is important. This is because it will have positive impacts on the environment and on the health of the people. For that reason, people and thegovernment should be encouraged on the use of sustainable technologies to ensure that they adapt to a clean environment. Although it has been establishing that beginning, the initiative is not an easy task it is crucial to ensure that all countries come to an agreement on ways to reduce the production of materials required to create sustainable energy. For example, the wind turbines and solar systems have been said to be the most expensive. For that reason, the governments should find companies that can make the wind turbines and the solar panels at a lower price to ensure that the countries achieve their goal for efficient renewable energy.A question that can be raised on the issue of renewable energy is on how to convince people that the myths and pitfalls associated to renewable energy are workable. The reason this is important is that people need to understand that the benefits associated with renewable energy overrule the disadvantages because at the long run the benefits can be seen.
