The earth is becoming warmer and because of that, there are a lot of natural problems and disasters around the world. This is called global warming. People on earth caused this change in temperature. Further, people need energy in their daily lives. They need electricity, fire, hot water, heating and cooling. To produce energy that is enough for all of these activities, we need fossil fuels and coal. All the countries around the world use these two fuels to make electricity and to heat water or air. Many rich countries depend on countries in the Middle East to give them fossil fuels like oil and gas to be able to serve their people. Countries around the world have been using these forms of energy production almost for a hundred years now. The people on earth are increasing every day, and their needs of energy are also increasing. The price of making energy in the old ways is also becoming higher and higher. In the past, the effects of the use of fossil fuels and coal were not known. However, we now know what we are doing to our world and to our future generations. Therefore, we have to do something to change this. Many countries and governments have started to look for new technologies for energy production. These new energy technologies should be good for the environment. They should not make our problem worse and they should be cheap. One of the new energy technologies is solar energy....
For instance, nuclear plants, which are referred to as a clean source of energy by some people, produce waste that is very harmful to human beings and the environment. The United States actually faces a serious problem because there are no facilities to store and process nuclear waste. This will be a problem in future as more and more nuclear waste is stored in the nuclear plants themselves. Coal fired plants also produce ash waste that is very dangerous to the health of human and animals. Some of this waste was used in the past to produce building equipment, but these products were found to be harmful as well. Moreover, even hydro plants can make problems for the wildlife and put waste into rivers and lakes. On other hand, solar cells only use sunlight to produce power. There are basically no byproducts or waste from the solar plants. The only waste may be in the form of damaged solar cells. However, the damaged solar cells are usually reprocessed to produce new cells. For example, Doug Smock wrote “Solar Plane Takes Flight” in 2010 in Design News to show the first solar airplane. The author shows how the airplane was built using over ten thousand solar cells to power it and reduce waste from fossil fuel airplanes (Smock 45). This is an example of how solar cells can be used as an alternative clean energy source as compared to fossil fuels. In addition, pollution from the old energy sources has become an important issue of debate as many scientists have confirmed that our planet is warming very quickly. Solar cells give a good solution to the issue of pollution because they produce no emission into the air. “Solar energy is one of the cleanest energy resources that does not ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

Should Health Care Be Organised Using a Market Mechanism

These exchanges take place in a market that may exist physically or virtually. Aside from location, the other key elements that allow transactions to take place are buyers and sellers and a medium of exchange referred to by the term money. Thus, a market mechanism allows the transaction in an economic system where buyers acquire from sellers certain goods or services in exchange for money at an agreed price. The degree of freedom a market enjoys is determined by the extent to which these different elements are allowed to be influenced by supply and demand conditions. These conditions affect the number of sellers and buyers and the prices they are willing to exchange for goods and services. In a free market system, prices are deter...

The Ethical Controversy of Stem Cells

As time goes by, people often think about what could be the next milestone for healthcare: Will doctors be able to cure cancer? Will cures be discovered for Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and diabetes? Will we replace organs with mechanical man-made machines? It may surprise people but technology has made it possible to cure debilitating diseases as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, diabetes; even the production of organs may not be far in the future considering these healthcare breakthroughs. These newly developing technologies could yield the biggest medical discovery yet. However, people are fighting against its discovery, and among them, even the President of the United States. This technology that...

Mrs. Doubtfire: Analysis of the Film Using Bergsons Essay on Laughter

The story of the movie is rather unusual however it has been well accepted by the public in all countries globally; the success of the film can lead to the development of specific assumptions regarding the quality of comedies produced the last years as well as the characteristics of successful comedies (based on the elements of the film that have been considered as the most successful regarding the laughter caused to the audience).

The Work Breakdown Structure and its Advantages in Project Planning

A typical construction project involves a WBS that evolves from an initial task that is successively subdivided into smaller work blocks until the lowest level is reached, indicating a tree-like structure. Subdividing the project breaks down the project work effort into packages that are both manageable and independent. It connotes that the lowest level of the package corresponds to the smallest project work, which requires the shortest completion time periods. As WBS shows the relationship of all elements of a project, a sound basis for cost and schedule control is provided.

Some lists of project activities involved in WBS include budgeting, cost allocation, time allocation and management, and quality assurance. These...

Nile Floods Public Health Disaster: Managing the Disaster using Katrina Experience

The Katrina hurricane disaster that wrecked New Orleans was a classic example of this. Authors, Frank and Trinidad have observed that disaster preparedness is essential in the current socio-political atmosphere. They say that disasters can lead to illness, injury, the devastation of homes, disruptions of essential services, and the displacement of populations. (Frank and Trinidad, 2007). Every disaster teaches the same lessons. “Advance preparation is essential, communication among responders is critical, rules and procedures are helpful, but autonomy and flexibility within limits are key elements of a productive response” (Frank and Trinidad 2007).

Originating from the monsoon rains, the annual floods...

Using Computers to Teach Mathematics is Better than Traditional Methods

...Using computers to teach Mathematics is better than traditional methods Computer technology has changed the face of education, and is a useful tool in the teaching of other subjects as well with Mathematics being no exception. Various calculating devices have long been used in Mathematics, but the computer offers an even greater potential. Some teachers are reluctant to use computers, for example on the grounds that it is an expensive option and not every child has access to one at home, but its prevalence nowadays means that students should be given the opportunity to use computers in their Mathematics lessons. They have the advantage of being able to make complex calculations much quicker, demonstrate graphical visualisations, instilling...
