This section of the research will focus on the natural resources, transportation and other important features that define Danville Kentucky and the Boyle County in general. This will help to identify the main issues that are principally of importance to the people and can affect their health and social lives. The total area covered by the city of Danville is 15.8 square mile. However, Danville is a predominantly urbanized settlement. Hence, the natural elements of the city are not given so much prominence and significance.

The natural features take the center-stage in places outside the city. Danville is bordered by Stanford, Lancaster and Harrodsburg which are less urban settlements in the Boyle County. This shows that the catchment area will produce a blend of rural cases which have linkages to natural causes as well as some urban issues which are centered in the Danville area. The topography of Boyle County ranges from gently rolling to hilly. This means that there is a relatively lower risk of serious injuries relating to falls and other automobile accidents that involve complicated height issues.

However, there is still some risk that relate to the hilly areas of the Boyle county which are quite popular amongst the residents for camping. The soil of the County described as rich and productive. This was one of the motivating factors that led to migration and settlement in the region right after independence. To-date, agriculture remains a major component of the community.. To-date, agriculture remains a major component of the community. The area has been known for the production of tobacco, corn and hay as well as beef and dairy cattle. Due to the agrarian features of the region, it is important to look out for diseases that can be transferred from animals to humans as well as other farm related challenges that affect the skin and other parts of the human body.

The main rivers of the Boyle County are the Chaplain, Dick's (Dix), and Salt Rivers. There are also many creeks in the county which means that there are drowing related issues that could come up from time to time. The climate of Kentucky is generally moderate and relatively humid with substantial levels of rainfall (Netstate, 2011). The climate is described on the Koppen scale as a humid sub-tropical climate (Netstate, 2011). It is characterized by warm summers and cool winters. This means that it can generally accommodate a wider range of micro-organisms in the different times of the year.

Kentucky is also located in the path of several storms. This means that there are many cyclones and disaster-prone precipitation conditions that can affect the region from time to time. The average temperature ranges for Kentucky is from 33°F (1°C) in January to 76°F (24°C) in July (City Data, 2011). The Boyle County in Kentucky has a similar temperature and rainfall
