Gothic elements including the decayed corpse, imposing decrepit house, and horrors connected with Emily add suspense and drama to the story and makes readers have doubts and develop a creepy atmosphere with tension and suspense and that anything is possible. The gothic elements allow for Emily’s murder to remain undiscovered and believable a fact that could not be achieved by other styles.
