I believe that a pig stands for greed and dirty politics too. Some people, for instance, believe that many politicians are pigs or corrupt because they fatten themselves up with power and money, once in public service. Being a pig means being a dirty politician who does not have good intentions and who wants to use the public office for selfish purposes. Joni Ernst shows that she is not a pig like the pigs in the government, and that, instead, she will clean up the mess of these pigs.
In addition, I confirm the idea that squealing is a metaphor for making the pigs cry in pain, when my classmate said: “By squealing, she means that the current regime will not be happy with her leadership style because there will be no room for them to squander public funds.” I agree that Ernst plans to make them squeal because she will make sure that they can no longer do their expensive or corrupt programs.
Finally, I agree that being a mother is a good metaphor for being a caring leader. Ernst is suggesting that she can be a good senator because she knows how to take care of her children. Given these metaphors, I do not think that my classmate missed anything.

I think my classmate misunderstands what a metaphor means. My classmate wrote: “One of the first things that I thought was an example of a metaphor was when Obama says all of us will prosper. This is a metaphor in my opinion because it uses the word will.” Using the word “will” does not mean that a metaphor is being used. I also did not see the visual metaphor of ships overseas. Obama said that tax incentives will not be given to companies that ship jobs overseas though. A ship is a metaphor for leaving, which applies to lost jobs due to outsourcing. Nevertheless, I agree that showing Americans working can mean that Obama wants for Americans to work hard for America.
In addition, I believe my classmate missed the metaphor of the setting of the speech, which is a living room. Obama said it himself that, if he was in his audience’s living room, he would discuss his plan with them. The setting of the speech is inside the house, specifically the living room. For me, this is a visual metaphor for setting up intimacy with Americans. Obama wants Americans to feel that he is right there in their living room to talk about his plan. The setting adds sincerity to his speech.
Furthermore, another missed metaphor refers to the words “double down” on the “trickle down.” Obama refers to Romney’s plan that seems to serve the interests of the rich more than the poor and the middle class. His metaphor says that Romney will only double the decrease of the trickle-down effect of the economy, if he implements his plan. Obama’s point is that his plan is better because it is not a trickle down but a true contribution to the growth of the American economy. Read More

Orchestra metaphor

...May 26, Project Manager as Conductor An appropriate metaphor, for the responsibilities of Project Manager, is that of Orchestra Conductor. A conductor inspires and communicates shared vision of a composition, just as project managers hold the larger picture of a project and, motivated by its vision, encourage others toward a shared end. Orchestra members trust the conductor’s leadership, and project team members should trust the project manager’s leadership, in order to facilitate a beneficial outcome. The project manager, like an orchestra conductor, must trust his team enough to delegate responsibility, rather than doing everything alone. At the same time, both conductor and project manager maintain responsibility and...

The Zombie Metaphor

...The Zombie Metaphor To imply that the things we see, hear or simply stimulate us in general, may have in some way or another a hidden meaning, perhaps to fool us; perhaps to induce us to do something we don't necessarily want to do is a very controversial idea. This, if well thought and investigated, may be applied to the things we as humans enjoy doing most: watching movies, reading books, going to excellent restaurants and eating everything our bodies allow, as things that make us forget if only for moments about our actual lives, problems, pains, debts, etc. But what if during that reality time-out we are being led to something else, being told in a hidden way what we shall do or think Such is the case that we present...

...Your Metaphor for Life Life is a game. I believe those words. It’s like in the movie The Matrix. In this world that we are living in, technology rules our lives. Although in The Matrix, the ones who control the lives of the people there are robots (and it is quite pessimistic), I believe that it is us who control our life. We are the players of this game and life presents challenges to us players by giving us a more difficult problem to achieve every day. ...The Use of Metaphor in Psychology Introduction When a client enters the therapeutic process they are inundated with emotions and thought patterns that are often negative.
