Evaluation Any time before one evaluates a type of writing it is prudent for them to first adequately understand the type of writing. Many are the time that we have had a discussion of a newly released application, read an online review of a book or written an evaluation at work or at school. This brings to mind the need to understand the key components of an evaluation. An adequate evaluation should understand the target audience. In the analysis of the audience, the author should also look at how the audience is affected by the sentiments relayed by the evaluation. In addition to identification of the audience, the author also needs to understand the purpose of the evaluation and finally the author should also have knowledge of the intended influence on its readers.
In A guide To Reading Evaluations, it gives the fundamentals of evaluating any piece of writing. The guide makes an analysis of Amitai Etzioni’s evaluation of the fast food jobs offer to high school students by McDonald’s. In this evaluation the author looks at the case is a two-tier structure. The first structure is reading for meaning. In reading for meaning the evaluator looks at the case with a sole purpose of understanding the case judgment and way of reasoning. In the second tier the author seeks to employ the different strategies used in evaluation which include: presentation of well detailed subject, adequate supportive facts on arguments and counter arguments proper response to alternative judgments and objections and a proper organization of ideas and logic Read More
