Generally, throughout the film, James bond strives to thwart a dangerous Russian spy who is accused of funding global terrorists by winning a game worth millions of dollars (Rothkopf, 4). There are a number of sociological theories and perspectives that have increasingly been used to provide understanding and insight to various events and social phenomena such as the ones depicted throughout the film. Various scholars have explained social cohesion and integration in various forms. For example, socialist ideologists such as Marxists have always attempted to explain what holds society together and what is responsible for its progressiveness as well as conflicts.

This paper critically analyzes the film Casino Royale using social theories such as social conflict theory with examples of how Marxism has been used in the film. One of the major sociological theories that effectively provide insight into the events depicted in the film Casino Royale is the Conflict theory. This is because the major themes in the film such as terrorism, Cold war geopolitical brinkmanship and ethnic conflicts all attributed to the struggle for resources and the use of power and coercion to bring about social order.

Derived from the early works of Karl Marx, conflict theory is one of the main three sociological perspectives that is based on the belief that societies are usually fragmented into social classes that tend to compete for economic and social resources there by leading to conflicts. According to this sociological perspective, the contemporary wars, terrorism and other social conflicts can be best explained by the social, political and economic inequalities which exist because various social groups always fight and struggle to control societal resources and advance their interests (Roland, 36).
