Discussion Question Slang words are generally being used more and more with the advent of time. This has been a huge problem and the reason for it isthe technological tilt that has come about within the lives of the people. The popularity of these words is due to the fact that the youngsters use it more than anyone. Thus the advent of this language has come about for a number of negative reasons. These words are used because people like to use shorthand language which can be easily communicated instead of the proper words.

It makes their life hassle-free and gives them the luxury to say a number of things faster and without much difficulty. The usage of slang words is more today than ever was the case in the past. The use of the Internet has increased the chances of slang words being used on a regular basis which was not the case in the past (Hughes, 2009). The words that kids and grandkids find dorky in a hilarious way include ‘ttyl’ which is short form for ‘talk to you later’, ‘asap’ for as soon as possible, ‘rofl’ for rolling on the floor laughing and others.

There are also other slang words which are being made use of consistently and which have left a bad taste in the mouth as far as the conservative individuals within the society are concerned. Thus it would be correct to state that the usage of slang words is not in the good interest of anyone and avoiding them would suit everyone. Works CitedHughes, H. G. A. The Routledge Dictionary of Modern American Slang and Unconventional English. Reference Reviews, 23(3), 2009
