Prompt Analyzing movie: Safety not guaranteed “Safety not guaranteed” is a film depicting three magazine Darius, Jeff and Arnau, who are on a mission to uncover the truth behind a strange classified ad coming from a man looking for someone to travel back in time with. Kenneth, the man who set the ad, has important classification he looks for that partner. Jeff, who first made the attempt failed, as far as his answers to Kenneth’s initial questioning is concerned. Motivated to work things for entirely within the context of doing business, Jeff gives Darius the opportunity to find the chance to interview Kenneth for an upcoming magazine publication. Set in a not so distant future, the movie depicts not just an interesting concept whether traveling back in time is possible, but it also showcases the actual concept of trust, communication and generally, relational development. As the movie progresses, we can see the stages involved in the actual development of relationship which include the concept of initiating stage, experimentation, intensifying stage, integration stage and bonding stage as the integral components of the coming together of the characters. There are many scenes in the film that we can use to illustrate the relational development among the characters, but it is important to try to figure it out how this happens in the case between Darius and Kenneth. Apart from the classified ad, it was Darius who made the first attempt to initiate the initial contact, as she started to find her way to Kenneth at the convenience store where he works. Since it was purely a business purpose for Darius, the one who must finally decide to build up the real relationship is no other than Kenneth himself, and this means he needs to come up with first impressions about this magazine staff. His first impression about Darius looks like it fits in his essential qualification for the one he wants to travel back in time with, which must be far from what he has just experienced with Jeff. In this step of relational development, it is clear that the initiating stage has been successfully employed, as Kenneth’s first impression about Darius is someone whom he could confide with the vital information linked to the mission. This concept is certainly applied well in this scene of the movie, because of the depiction of first impression that is elemental to the initial developmental stage of relationship. In fact, this paves the way for the next stage of relational development, which is a clear consequence of the successful employment of the initial stage of relationship development. Somewhere in the movie when Kenneth walked out from the restaurant after Darius discovered his artificial ear, is a significant highlight of the development of the next stage, which is the experimentation. Kenneth is essentially probing in this part, to know if Darius is really the one to choose in the mission. In the relational development, everything might end up here, just as in the case of Jeff and his high school crush. However, the film shows effective implementation of the experimentation stage in the case of Kenneth and Darius, just as how the latter via an emotional conversation also reveals their common ground, implying that they both experienced in their childhood years as laughing stuffs of the people around them, which is a move that leads them further to the next step, the intensifying stage. The intensifying stage is revealed in the film when Kenneth finally discloses to Darius his actual reason for going to a time travel. Darius responded with all sincerity, which eventually creates an impression on the part of Kenneth that his disclosure is reciprocated. Kenneth even discloses his talent in music, which is something that touches Darius for real, leading them to go to the next level of relational development, the integration stage. The ultimate highlight of integration stage as the movie depicts is when Darius and Kenneth passionately kiss and comfort each other on that one remarkable cold night at the forest. This is a perfect illustration of the inception of sexual relationship, which is evidently a mark of integration stage in the relational development, leading further to another stage. As the movie moves to an end, the final stage of coming together of the characters of Kenneth and Darius is put to the test, when the latter thought of the former as insane, and the former considered that the latter betrayed him. Considering the point that the development of their relationship is now somewhere in the deeper level, the audience are left with the question in mind whether Darius will finally come with Kenneth to go back in time, when things slightly turn not the way as they planned. Here where the test of commitment is revealed in the movie. Darius and Kenneth both show this type of commitment even if things might have turned a little mess up. The actual time machine is showed in this part of the film, which is a relevant scenario for Darius to finally believe that Kenneth is in his strong mental condition. However, apart from this consideration, the most important point that the movie wants to show to the audience is the actual trust and commitment that the two characters will be able to provide for each other. This is eventually the step where the development of bonding stage is depicted in the movie film. The scene where Darius walks hesitantly on the platform to the time machine while stretching her hand straight to reach Kenneth’s provides a strong point of view of the bonding stage. In totality, the film successfully illustrates the actual development of relationship among the characters, particularly in the case of Darius and Kenneth. This claim is evident when Darius and Kenneth finally end up with the necessary commitment to go for the time travel together. This is a relevant effective consequence of the application of relational development concepts in the movie. There is a depiction of relational development stages, which are areas in relationship building that requires meaningful understanding and by which one can general significant learning. In the movie, due to successful employment of relational development model there are many things to learn on how successful relationship can be developed between social beings. Relational development is a stage or a process just as exactly shown in the film. It does not happen all night long to form a relationship that will end up to the development of commitment at the bottom line. The movie clearly presents this point, by introducing us to the actual scenes when the possible development of relationship might potentially go on or stand to a halt. Even if the entire film provides us this pattern, the whole point is that one cannot exactly build a relationship that will last for a lifetime in just a day of workout for those who are involved in its actual development. On the other hand, the relational development in the movie will teach us to understand the concept of effective relationship building. This point that actually comes from the movie provides us the essential foundation on the right thing to do, because it presents us the actual model or trend that at some point we can evaluate as either good or bad in a logical manner. We can say that the director of the film provides us everything in a logical manner because there is a clear manifestation of development in the relationship of the involved main characters. This actual picture, at some point represents something that happens in reality. This means this is indeed something that we can learn. Work Cited Safety Not Guaranteed. Dir. Colen Trevorrow. Perf.
