Download file to see previous pages There are many instances in the movie when the viewer feels that at least at this time Arthur or William should learn something and focus equally on their studies. For example, when Arthur’s father leaves the family and William’s brother loses his job, one feels that these events will bring Arthur and William to face the realities. However, it does not happen. The movie brings on screen the harsh reality that the dreams of ‘making it big’ keeps the players from facing the realities of their life and taking action to correct it. The other good thing about the movie is that in a subtle way, it has also exposed the faults in the social system. The movie ‘Hoop Dreams’ has brought forth the exploitative nature of the social and institutional practices related to the sport of basketball. The movie makes the viewer realize that social institutions like schools and colleges contribute in risking the future of the young basketball players by offering them scholarships for their sports performance. In doing so, they do not offer any future security in case the players fail to make it to the national level. The movie makes one realize that the society and adults are as much responsible in destroying the lives of children as their own dreams are. There are many instances in the movie where the viewer gets to learn lessons which can be applied to his own life. For example, the movie makes one realize that if one has to improve his life and make it better, then one has to face the realities and think differently. Hence, the movie also works as a wake up call for the viewer. The movie is an excellent representation of human life and hence, the viewer has a lot to learn from it. Social Problems In the documentary movie ‘Hoop Dreams,’ one can see how the social problems experienced by Arthur Agee and William Gates affect their lives in a negative way. By looking at the circumstances and family background of Arthur Agee, one can see that two of the major social problems that Arthur experiences in his life are the Black ethnic background and low socio-economic status (SES) of his family. Black Ethnic Background Arthur Agee belongs to a Black ethnic background. His ethnic background is a source of many other problems like social disadvantage, lack of proper education and low self-esteem. There are various social problems associated with people from Black ethnic background. For example, people from Black ethnic background usually live in neighborhood that is dangerous, unhealthy and vulnerable to development of anti-social behavior pattern. Arthur Agee’s ethnic background makes him experience the social disadvantages like living in unhealthy social surroundings and lacking a good upbringing. His ethnic background becomes a reason for him suffering from low self-esteem and no social exposure. Hence, even when he gets an opportunity like a school scholarship, he is unable to take full advantage of it as he becomes scared and timid when exposed to new people and children from White ethnic background. When he gets an admission in good school, he is not able to connect with children from White ethnic background as he had never socialized with them. For example, when he is given an opportunity to play with freshman team of St. Joseph, he finds it difficult to follow their discipline and rules. Arthur is shown saying that he has never ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

...? The speech given by Benjamin Freedman talks about what really happened during World War I and World War II and how Jews lied to get nations into the massive wars not only once but twice. He says that both of these tragic wars happened because of the Zionists and how their propaganda to keep their businesses thriving led to killings. It was meant to be an eye-opener for those in the audience as he said that no one believed him the first time that he argued his point in front of people. It was also meant to be a warning to prevent a third World War. Such being his objective, then he has so far succeeded. That he was a former Jew and an insider makes what he is saying believable. There is no doubt that there are things about... The speech...

... Judea Declares War on Germany and Freedman’s Speech It is ironic to learn that certain circumstances in history had happened because people allowed them to. It is very sad to realize that the Holocaust was not mainly an evil act by the Germans; rather, it started as an act of defense against nations that collaborated against it. These are the ideas I have formed after reading two intriguing articles –Judea’s declaration of war against Germany and Freedman’s speech. Thanks to the information superhighway, students like me can access such documents that have historical significance. Upon reading Judea’s move against Germany, I find it strange because what has been impressed upon me is that Germany was always on the offensive side... Judea...

...Holocaust: Another Horror Story? The main objective of the paper is to present a view regarding the recorded interview ofone of the known personalities exploring the issues related to the holocaust. David Cole was born a Jew and with that information stated there is that biased air which surrounded the start of the documentary interview. Slowly Cole set up the plot of how the film will go. There are quite a few points about the Holocaust itself which were questioned. It was a little shocking that though Cole was a Jew, now an atheist, he remained to side on finding the truth and not what has been published and “revealed” by researches. There are irregularities with the reports that are being disseminated to the public....

...A Reaction to ‘The Experience of Space and Time’ by David Harvey By merely observing the events taking place in a society under time and spatial constraints, it does occur that David Harvey has established a remarkable point regarding the phenomenon of time-space compression which he claims to have had significant impact upon the state of postmodern affairs. Even if to many this appears unreadily conspicuous, the idea of progress over time in several aspects of living inevitably shifts the state of thought with reference to dealing with the global economy, culture, socio-political activities, as well as technology and other fields in the process of acquiring the characteristic traits of postmodernity. As the gradual...

This depicts some of my icons in the society as they struggled for empowerment of women across America. I was attracted to the movie through the classical sounds and music that was playing in the background. It was very influential in building the mood of what was happening or about to happen... in the...
